I spent 30 minutes typing out a song from Youtube. My Russian typing skills are getting
better! I have quite a few new words to add here... сплошная - solid (f) закиды - ? обиды - grievances Зря - in vain ? Держись - hold on нелепо - ridiculously (?) клянись - swear (imp) EDIT: Found out how to say "From Moscow to New York": От Москвы до Нью-Йорка. Coincidentally, it uses two structures from the chapter on the genitive. Hearing it in a song always helps, though! Is it me, or do Russians think the United States is only New York? ;) I still don't get the difference between От and из. I guess the former is for "He went from Moscow to Vladivostok" and the latter is "I am from Moscow." It's difficult to split up one word (from) into different meanings, though! END OF EDIT. And there are more with an unclear meaning (Google Translate is not the best dictionary). I have to study for chem now... until later! Aujourd'hui, c'est le jour de l'examen. Je deteste les examens: je sais que je vais faire
bien mais je me sense encore nerveuse. Je ne comprend pas. :/ Je n'ai pas ecrit un journal en francais pour beaucoup de temps. Tristement, je n'ai pas le temps pour ecrire avec accent alors j'ajouterai les accents depuis. Comme practique-je le francais si le russe est ma langue preferee? Puis, tous les jour j'ecrire dans un cahier en francais. J'ecris de mes sentiments, pensements, et choses de ce type. C'est tres utile et bon therapie aussi. Le seul probleme, c'est que personne ne peut pas revisioner les choses que j'ecris parce qu'ils sont prives. Il faut que je m'aille maintenant. I'm going to try reviving an old strategy I had for learning words:
1. take an article in Russian, 2. read through it once, 3. highlight unknown words, 4. look up ones that can't be found from context/impede understanding, 5. reread with *knowledge*, 6. PROFIT. My article is Шведский язык on Russian Wikipedia, particularly this segment:
Underlined words are ones I don't know; bold words are ones I have found out through context or dictionary. I understand 80% of this paragraph. I'm hoping to get through the whole article. Why this article, you ask? Well, I figure it should have a lot of phonology and grammar terms. This means that if I read the article on another language, I'll already have the vocabulary needed. It will be easier for me to use materials in Russian to learn other languages (I'm already using Russian to kinda sorta learn Swedish). Success will come! :D I've found that I know around 260 Swedish words, if I count the 40 most recent ones I've learned. I hope to learned 700~ more words by the end of summer so that I can read Wiki articles in Russian with a little more fluency. 1. распространённый - spread, pervasive (I guessed this from context :D) 2. Большинство - many, most (?) (it has the Больш- root so I'm guessing this from context) 3. близкий - near 4. Looked at the song "Mama Mia" by Vintage again and actually wrote down the vocabulary. наган - revolver Мне везло - I'm lucky; it's lucky to me до сих пор - until now Выходит - (can be used in the sense of) it turns out пустой - empty лужа - puddle победа - victory (с)крутить - to twist дурацкий - stupid, simple Anyone know what "Я кручу барабан" means? Google translate says it means "I'm better drum"; literally it means "I twist drum." Neither makes much sense, unless you take the Google version to mean "I'm better as a drum"... but then what is "кручу"? Also, what about "повезло"? It's supposed to mean "luck", but I can't find a dictionary with it. What's the difference between "повезло" and "везло"? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Closer to my short term goal of 300 words. 8) I've been looking at my article again and I've gotten all sorts of cool words. Here are some of them. Notice that most of them have something to do with grammar. Very useful! речь - speech общий - common, general средний - neuter род - gender например - for instance определённый - definite падеж - case около - near It's been a while since I last made a dialogue. I've been getting lots of words, so I should write another one when I have them time... I'll do so once I finish going over the genitive case. :) I went over one chapter yesterday. I'm going to print out a lot of exercises about the genitive case because it's important and all. I took an online test that's supposed to test my Russian and it said I was at the B2 level. I don't know this song, but if they play Russian roulette in it, literally or figuratively, I am guessing "крутить барабан" refers to spinning the drum of the revolver. Крутить can also mean to spin. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||
