I haven't learned many of the aspect pairs yet, still trying to figure those out.

Don't feel like Assimil's lesson of today (that's number 25, folks) is sticking very well even though I know pretty much all these words. It seems I always translate sentences slightly differently mentally from how Assimil wants them to be translated.

Aujourd'hui j'ai vu la filme "Intouchables" dans un petit cinéma à Leiden. Cette filme était soutitré avec mots néerlandais, mais je m'ai donné une surprise; j'ai compris le plupart de l'histoire raconté dans cette filme. Avec une mademoiselle à gauche de moi. :)
Il faut que j'atteindrai mon but de comprendre français en parlant. Maintenant il faut apprendre d'ecrire correctement aussi :)

my french is terrible.
Also, it's hard to study when you feel like your brain wants to strangle you and has you in a chokehold. But I've managed to do an Assimil lesson a day.
I don't even know how I managed that much.

I would like some suggestions for a French novel to read in my spare time :)
I figure I need to read more and thus I should buy some books, but in French, I have no idea what.
Assimil lesson 33 now, and my tempo means progress

Assimil lesson 34 contained a few new words but no big surprises, but it's surprising to see how quickly Colloquial makes me pick up the grammar. Verbs of motion still go wrong a few times, but the translations at the end made sure I was a whole lot better at them than in the beginning. More practice should ensure I will be fine with this soon.

Wow, I am amazed at the speed with which you go through Assimil. I struggled terribly at the point where you are, and it took me a a vacation and a 6WC to be able to push up to lesson 50 - and I have been unable to get beyond that since.

I spend about 30 minutes on an Assimil lesson, maybe a little less. Doing one a day is pretty much the only constant thing I do because my life is back to a normal 9-5 routine again nowadays which means I cannot spend my nights staying up till four working through a big Colloquial unit doing all the grammar repetition. I've also finally planned a few gigs to see and I always play guitar on Mondays - that's meant, together with Russian class (which ends next week, by the way) to give me some good going out and away time which I've sorely lacked as of late - too much stay at home and things. I usually do that though so it's no surprise that the past four months I've gotten through a lot of material.
In other words, the one constant in my Russian practice is the 30 minutes of Assimil a day. I always make sure I do that.
To sum up my progress in all my study materials (finished until):
Assimil - lesson 35/100
Teach Yourself - Unit 12/20
Colloquial - Unit 10/22
And then class materials, Anki reviews, and going to try and read some Russian folk tales (сказки).
Tomorrow evening I am going to the open day of the Alliance Française in the Hague and do a placement test. I hope I can get B2 so I can do a C1 exam in June, but we'll see how it all pans out until then. If I am going to do B2, no big deal. I'll do C1 later.
I also try to do one TY unit a week and one Colloquial unit a week. Given that I've started them around January/February that hasn't panned out EXACTLY as planned, but it's good enough. If I can do more then that's good, of course.
