Well damn you, now I feel like I'm doing next to nothing!
What was ineffective with learning French? Didn't you learn it rather quickly?

You know this isn't true, who just got back from visiting the place where her target language is spoken? You've a higher level of accomplishment in your languages than I do, in fact you are one of the people I strive to emulate. In both language learning, and wine consumption ;)

Hmm well as they say, "Haste makes waste". I've still got some distance to go before I am happy with my French, but I can't say that it wasn't efficient what I did. Rather that the process still isn't finished, and is suffering from my time in Australia and my focus on Spanish and German.
I'm finding it hard to put the extra effort in to get that 5% extra which is missing. Too much work for so little pay off perhaps.
Thom.

Today, I only did lesson 57 of Assimil Espagnol. I also read through the dialogue and notes of lesson 58.
I have remarked that I tend to swing between the two languages. Doing a stint of one before going back to the other.
Otherwise, I did some work work and some gardening. Oh and watched the Queenslanders thrash NSW in State of Origin. I write this because I hope someone from NSW will read it, and feel sad. :D
Thom from Queensland. ;)

That sometimes happens, I see logs of someone speeding along (today's read was the Chinese blog) and I am impressed and find it motivating (and sometimes counter productive - we need to hit the right balance there) but tricoteuse certainly is one to emulate. I speak the language fluently but I wish I had her ease of writing!
Perhaps we can mix and match brain parts?

I also find it motivating to read about what others do when I do nothing. It makes me feel too guilty to continue being lazy. And I'm really bad at doing useful immersion since I talk so little, but still, being in Russia was surely helpful.
And I would very much like some more French speaking ease ;)

So, what have I done these last few days?
Lots of radio listening. Atleast three hours in both German and Spanish, and I think even a bit more for Spanish.
I did a Lang-8 post in Spanish today. Keeping up with my vow to match Zammy blow for blow. It's probably the first decent sized thing I've written in Spanish. So I'd love for some native speakers to pick it to pieces.
My focus this week has shifted back towards Spanish. It's probably the one I prefer the most, and is ofcourse my focus for the year. I'm happy to continue clicking over with German, waiting to explode next year. But this year, I'm intent to focus on Spanish.
Did a couple of assimils I think. Moving along.
*Edit* I'm now up to Lesson 60 of Assimil. Had a browse ahead and read lesson 63 which is the next revision session. All about suffixes and what not.
Thom.

Well it's been a busy week for me. Went out on the weekend, so got nothing done language wise. Made the decision to come back to Paris as a tourist for personal reasons. Bought a ticket and flew back. Arrived yesterday, slept. Had some stuff to do today. Will get the language learning back on track soon. Probably Monday. I am happy to have slipped back comfortably into the francophone world. Had a bit of trouble getting started speaking french again, but that ironed itself out fairly quickly.
I think that my listening skills in both Spanish and German are coming along nicely. I am understanding more of the radio, and even the songs that I listen to. I downloaded a bunch of German ebooks which I will be looking through this afternoon. So I'll try to find a nice easy one to boost my reading skills in German.

Readers Mine,
Have reached lesson 64 of Assimil L'espagnol. I also wrote a lang 8 post today. Being back in France has made my french come back shining better than before.
Not much else to say, signed up to Shared Talk, though I've not yet used it.
Thom.
