Readers mine,
Yesterday I finished the 70th lesson of assimil Spanish sans peine. I also went for a walk down to St Michel and picked up Assimil Perfeccionamiento Español, which was second hand and thus cheaper. Which makes me happy, and gives me a goal to work towards. I still need to catch up on some second wave as I am now a bit behind, but aside from that I am back in the saddle. Got bored of Homenaje a Cataluña, and felt the desire to work on my French a bit after doing the afore mentioned DALF exercises so I have started reading Jean Giorno's Le Hussard sur le Toit. Up to page 87 already and intend to knock it over pretty quickly. I remember trying to read it last year and being put off by a lot of unknown vocab and not being able to get into it. I've already noted down atleast 30 new words, mostly species of trees and other environmental descriptors. I had forgotten the word for chalk, 'craie', and thus had to look it up. It's not an obvious word for me in it's context of "dans le ciel de craie", for in Australia we don't get too many chalky skies. It's either blue, black or green, depending on the potential violence of the storm. So far I am enjoying it, for some reason a lot of the books I read in French focus on pestilence, and other ugly things. And to think that it is such a beautiful language, and I am delving into the putrid descriptions of cholera and the plague. But still, I'm sure it's useful vocab... Je vois que tout le monde commence d'écrire dans leurs langues ciblées mais pour ma parte je suis pas sûr si je ferai le même. Je pourrais le faire s'il le faut, mais je suis pas sur que mes chers lectures (et lectrices) vont comprendre si je change langue tout d'un coup. Si quieres que escribo más en las idiomas que intiento de aprender, dígamelo. Y puedo hacerlo. Sino, voy a escribir en Inglés. So there you have it, a post, if you want me to stay in English for whatever reason let me know. If not I may start mixing it up a little bit. *edit* I am now up to lesson 74 and have read 120odd pages of my book. **edit** Having nothing else today, I read to page 211 of 499. Thom. Ps. Si quieres que escriba más en las idiomas que trato de aprender (o intento aprender), dígamelo. Y puedo hacerlo. Si no, voy a escribir en Inglés.
Tal vez haya más correciones o tal vez algunas de las que hice yo no sean completamente correctas (lo siento), pero en todo caso ¡felicidades en haber sobrevivido el TAC hasta ahora! En cuanto a mi me gustaría si escribieras en tus lenguas de destino (si eso es lo que quieres). Además, estudio las mismas que tú estudias :P (Por favor perdone mis errores) -- Perhaps there are more corrections or some of mine aren't exactly correct (sorry) but anyway congrats on surviving the TAC! As for me, I'd like it if you wrote in your target languages (if you want). Besides, I'm studying the same languages as you. By the way, what exactly is a chalky sky? I don't think so. Description comes when describing ferocious heatwaves, everything feeling dead and dry. So I can't imagine it being clouds. I just kind of imagined a chalky whited out super hot sky full of dust and pollution which is what I imagine gives it the chalky grey/white colour. It works for me, as I said. Readers mine,
Haven't done any study, been busy socially for a change, and when at home been reading my book. Now up to page 340, which really I will claim as study as I had to look up a few words. J'ai finalement craqué et voulus savoir qu'est-ce qu'un hirondelle. J'ai bien compris que c'était une animal mais lequel m'a échappé jusqu'au moment où j'ai cherché dans le dictionnaire. Bien que j'ai découvert que c'est un espèce de oiseau, il fallait que j'aille chercher dans mon dictionare bilangue pour decouvrir que c'est un 'swallow'. Beaucoup d'effort pour un seul mot que ne représente pas grand chose. Will try to do something other than reading tomorrow; if not Monday. Thom. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Une hirondelle ne fait pas le printemps. C'est un mot très important.

I love this idiom because in English it translates to "One swallow doesn't make a summer". Almost identical, except I guess in England's climate the birds arrive later :) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||
