Today,
I've learnt that tankanlegget could be a 'tankan overlay' or a 'tank plant'. Morning well spent translating a phrase from a document the norwegien cluster sent me. Happily enough, the second option makes sense in the context of my job, unfortunately we don't provide farms of tanks to sustain the worlds wars.
Thom.

Leo,
Marvelous as always. Though I make lots of promises on skype most involving doing more work than I currently am...

Alright,
What have I done? Not much honestly.
Es: 110 pages into my book. 550 to go. It's somewhat decent, if a bit of a slog vocabulary wise. Not really ploughing through it like I'd like. Mostly due to time constraints, been reading it on the métro.
De: Some more pimsleur lessons. Started Parallel texting 'Inkdeath/Tintentod'. My thanks to the lovely Volte for that, the formating didn't survive the transfer to my ebook reader, but it's readable. If I could only find the time to find the audio I'd LR it. But well, I'm a busy man these days.
It: Eavesdropping on my bosses conversations with the Italian cluster. Listening practice I swear. I might try to track down some ebooks in Italian, nice basic things, I've got a few, but they're 'literature' level stuff.
I'm going to start listening to the radio at work, delicast should do. I've been getting away with my German metal with earbuds in, the German news should pass. :D
Aside from that, I'm trying to reduce my internet time sinks, HTLAL being one of them. Especially when I get home after work, as I don't really want to spend my entire day infront of the computer. It's time I take heed of Thom's Ten Tremendous Rules to Success. N°1 of which is; stop fudging around. N°2; Spend less time on the internet, and go study. So, here it goes.

Words like this will reduce the amount of votes your thread gets. Think about it!

The votes thing is a joke, and I think my log demonstrates that nicely. I'll worry about currying the favour of the masses when someone comes to rival my ~60 votes.
I can't get online radio to stream from work, I imagine they've blocked that which is a bit of a downer. In place of that, I'm listening to the Assimil German audio, while working. Which I should get back to.

Readers mine,
I spent yesterday listening to assimil. Upon reflection, I am reasonably happy with that, especially since my comprehension was ok. I'm feeling good feelings towards German at the moment, which is nice.
Spanish wise I am still reading my book, and seriously thinking about finding a hispanohablante in Paris to really speak with, as it is without a doubt, my biggest weakness. So all you invisibile hispanophones based in paris reading my log, let me know eh.

My Pretties,
I've hit the mother load (lode?), I managed to save four dictionaries of varying awesomeness from destruction today. One massive french/italian dictionary. One technical french/spanish dictionary, one technical engineering five in one glossary (en, de, es, fr, it) and one six in one 'animal production' glossary in the same five plus dutch. I don't understand why there's an animal production book in my enterprise... considering that we're engineers/constructors/managers. But well, it's cool and has pictures, including several different types of wheelbarrows. I will now be working the various different types into my everyday conversations. I've also got a greek technical dictionary, though well...maybe one day.
Studywise.
Es: 260 odd pages into my book now. Slow going due to social commitments, lazy sundays etc. Starting to get kinda interesting. It's a novel based in history with an expansion upon that which is known with a bit of fictional leeway. Basically revolves around the assassination of El Chivo, or Trujillo, who was once the leader of St. Dominica.
De: Started making some vocab lists. Thinking about retrying anki. It might be worthwhile for German, considering that I am starting from such a low base.
Fr: Just had the thought to do a short term anki blitz on French technical vocab. I've got a FR/EN glossary in pdf form somewhere, could vocab mine it. It's worth a look...
I also learnt the word 'débandade' today. It means 'disarray' and also 'stampede'.
It: Slowly building up the amount of Italian in my life. It is at this point in time at 0.003% but growing.
Question:
Has anyone bothered really focussing on technical language? For their jobs/schooling etc? I don't really 'need' to. But do you guys think that it'd be worth the effort? I'm thinking that it definitely wouldn't hurt my French. It's been a while since I 'studied' anything in French as well..
Let me know what you think.
Thom.
Ps. what does the asterix next to my log in the active topics page mean? Other than 'read this it's awesome'?
