Also should mention that there is a bilingual Spanish/English book put out by Penguin which is full of short stories
from different literary times, styles, and written by a good mix of writers from all Spanish speaking countries. It's
called Cuentos en Español.
And lastly I also find Isabel Allende to be a not too difficult and quite enjoyable read also.
All the best!

I was planning to begin intensive Spanish study in June, so I'm really tempted to start
early and take advantage of this challenge! However, that would also mean ending my
current intensive German study a month earlier than planned. I'll give it some thought
this week and see whether it would be worth it to change my plans.

Woohoo!
Excellent idea. I did some Spanish at university in 2003, although I never really got far in actual skill. I remember horribly sucking at the
final spoken test, since we never really did any speaking in class...mostly a bunch of grammar rules and weird batches of vocabulary.
I'm looking for suggestions for materials. I'm hoping to find some interesting books, and I think my brother has a book of Pablo Neruda
poetry somewhere. Any recommendations of authors? I'll probably also read some Latin American news on Narco News (although I just
noticed now that they have further translations into Portuguese, Italian, German, and Dutch -
narconews.com )
I'm looking forward to seeing Sprachprofi's twitter bot in action :)

I am interested in doing this, but could someone explain exactly what it entails? I am studying Spanish intensively in May regardless in preparation for my trip to Nicaragua, but I think it would be fun to do a challenge. I don't have Twitter, though. |

I think the idea is just to motivate each other to work hard on Spanish for 6 weeks, and see how far we get. We can ask each other for advice and assistance, and compare our methods.
Previously we tried giving updates in the thread here, but I found that not many people updated in there. This time, if we try this twitter idea, then we might see a lot more updates. We'll tweet something to Sprachprofi's bot which will tell it how much work we've done since our last tweet, perhaps measured in hours or something, and then after that an optional quick explanation of what we did during that time. That way other people can see what we're doing as we do it, and perhaps gain inspiration or motivation.

Doviende said it very well. The purpose is to achieve a lot in 6 weeks, and to support
each other. Compared to previous 6 Week Challenges, such as the January Dutch one, I
expect this one to be more interactive because of the ability to log progress on
Twitter - which is however optional.

I will use Assimil in Italian for Spanish, because my biggest fear is losing my Italian
in doing this. I will also do a lot of L-R and work with audiolibros (have a
look around Vagos.es forums, there are tons!).
