I continue Listen/Reading in Using French. Today, lessons 29 - 42.

On the topic of Assimil Waves, I wrote these notes yesterday.
Alternate waves. (continue listening in background for all of these levels if it's not boring).
1) Listen to dialogs and read translation until natural listening is evident when listening without book. I.E., you can understand the dialogs without the book.
2) Listen to lessons and read target language until you feel you can read with decent comprehension.
3) Listen to lessons, read target language, notes and exercises.
4) Listen and shadow lessons, read lesson notes and exercises, do fill in the blank exercises.
5) Write translation and shadow lessons, read notes, do fill in the blank exercises.

So right now, I'm in the middle of waves 1-2 for Using French. There is some crossover of the waves. E.G., if I understand the lesson, I look at the French. If I my comprehension is low looking at the French, I look at the translation.

I've continued Listen/Reading through lessons 43-63 in Using French. I'm still skipping the notes and revisions.

I also finished another trip through Resnick's Essential French Grammar. That makes 4 times now.

For the odd moments studying with a book, I'm going to insert New French with Ease instead of Resnick for the time being.

Okay, I finished Listen/Reading through the end, lesson 70, of Using French. The material is still difficult, so I'm mostly at level 1 in the 5 wave approach listed above in message 33.

On the other front, I read through lessons 1-7 with notes and revisions in New French with Ease. This is easy, but the notes are helpful reminders and looking at the French is also beneficial, since I've been primarily listening to the first Assimil French course for what seems like a long time, but I suspect it's only been a week or so.

Starting another run at Using French. The first 7 lessons have been pretty comprehensible looking mostly at the French.

With New French I read lessons 8-14, along with the notes and did the fill in the blank exercises. It's a good review. Lots of little details that I'm still noticing.

Using French - Up to lesson 21 again.

New French- Around lesson 19, je pense.

Today I'm thinking I should begin shadowing New French so that my speaking is up to scratch.

So I did start shadowing New French. The first 21 lessons were strong in the car when I was driving to work. I think the shadowing may work better in the morning when fresh, than after a long day. One good thing about shadowing is that it brings up little questions in my mind that are answered in the notes or questions about spelling or was that "le" or "la", those kinds of details. I think there is still plenty for me to get out of the first course.

I reshadowed New French lessons 1-28 and a bit more today. I've noticed that French is spoken out of the front of the mouth.

On the reading/reviewing front of New French, I read lessons 20-24 and did the fill in the blanks over the last day or so. The fill in the blank exercises are pretty easy, but they are a nice change of pace.

On the listen/reading track with Using French, I've gone through lessons 22-35 over the last 2 days.

My trip to France is just a few weeks away, and I want to get a good handle on the two Assimil courses before we depart. I think the next pass through Using French will be one of those waves where I play the lesson over and over and read the dialogue, notes, exercises, etc. That method helped my comprehension of New French a lot, so I look forward to using it with the advanced book.

Reading and reviewing New French, I went through lessons 25-35.

I'm also doing a parallel quick read and review of New French. There I'm up to lesson 15. This one doesn't take much time, but I think it's a valuable adjunct, which reminds me of the word ajouter to the rest of my studies.

For listen/reading Using French, I've done lessons 36-49 since yesterday. I'm starting to be able to read the French at times instead of the translation, which is promising.

In the background, I continue to listen to both courses, focusing mostly on the stuff I've just studied.
