I am interested in participating, but I am not clear on what the TAC involves (which is kind of ridiculous since I've been a member of this forum for over a year, but what can I say). So here are my questions: 1) What do you do, other than create a log? 2) How do you "win"? and 3) Are you required to study a certain amount of time, or can you just go at your own pace?

If I did participate, it would be with Polish, Spanish, and Latin.

In the interest of inclusion (and it's definitely not a problem for me since my target languages fit quite nicely), I have nothing against being part of a Finno-Ugric-Slavonic team per hribecek's idea. I do confess though that a group specifically for Finno-Ugric sounds attractively geeky and somehow suits the common perception of Finno-Ugric being an "outsider" or "lone wolf", hehe.

A tentative Finno-Ugric roster could be:
a3, Chung and mick33.

A tentative Finno-Ugric-Slavonic one could be:
a3, Chung, hribecek, Kisfröccs and mick33

Even though I'm not exactly sure of all further implications, I'd like to join a group
(if at all possible) and my target languages would be:
German: From passive C1/ active B2 to C2 in both categories.
French: From an A2 level to a strong B1-ish. Really committed to both languages.
Also possibly practice my Català since it's a bit rusty, but not as target.

I think Finno-Ugric makes sense. I have a good enough support system for Japanese here, but I need some more prodding to keep the nose to the grindstone with Finnish.   I assume it's just required to post regularly about studying, right?   There was a Finnish group, but it kind of died off. I forget if it was this or last year.

Seems to me that Slavonic languages are kind of their own thing. Nobody is working on Baltic languages, like Lithuanian or Latvian? These are also kind of lesser studied languages and might make sense to include.

That's what I was thinking. It seems that I'll update my current log as usual, but in the team's log add only a brief summary about what I've been doing and link to the more detailed entry of my current log.

As far as I know, no one has posted about studying Latvian or Lithuanian.

I'm happy to be in the Slavic or Finno-Ugric team but I think the teams should be bigger from the start this year
because lots of people lose interest as the year goes on and our Hungarian team became just me and Kisfröccs
this year.

Maybe a joint Slavic/Finno-Ugric team could be possible or something like an Eastern European team? Depends
on how many people there are I suppose.

I agree that perhaps teams could be a tad bigger this year also, as for the second year in a row after the first two
months or so it's simply been me and me alone representing the 'team'. I've enjoyed keeping the log and learnt a
heap all the same though, but it would be nice having more of a motivational team thing going on.

My languages for next year will be:

Spanish - Probably around the mid B2 area at the moment. Want to be a solid C1 working towards C2 by
the end of the year. This will be my main language for next year, however as I've kind of moved on from grammar
books and courses, I'll simply be reading, writing, listening, building vocabulary and hopefully speaking.

Polish - At the moment I'm just a beginner, low A1. But started learning Polish last week and will continue
to do so throughout the year. Hoping for a solid B1 by December 2012.

Dutch - I'll continue doing my sporadic bits and pieces of Dutch every now and then, as my motivation for
this language tends to ebb and flow quite strongly, however no doubt that I'll be doing some Dutch at some
stage throughout year. Current level probably A2/B1, with the aim to improve atleast a little on that - strong B1.

Would you want to join the Romance+Slavic team? :)

If there aren't enough bodies to go around, on second thought, I see the advantage of combining Slavic/Finno-ugric.
