SUPER CHALLENGE DISCUSSION THREAD 2014-15 |
|
|
Why a new thread? What is wrong with letting this thread continue, and posting an
update to the very first post that the may onwards discusson starts from so and so
post?
This log forum is getting cluttered with zillions of contests and challenges thread,
instead of the main citizens - the logs.
Currently we have *4* superchallenge 2014 threads in the log forum.
IMHO there should at most be two threads on superchallenge 2014 in the log forum. Move
the other threads elsewhere.
Mods, I officially object.

Questions:
Can I count the films by minutes (I add up the total number of minutes watched, divide it by 90 and use that number)? Also, does watching shows count for this? I use Netflix for my movies and there's no way I'd be able to find 50 streaming movies (for one language) that I haven't already seen, but I can watches shows any time.
Can I do the same for reading (add up total # of pages, then divide by 50)? Also, does Assimil count (1 page per lesson)?
How about readers? The writing in readers is generally bigger so I figure it wouldn't be fair to count them for a full page.

If you are on the twitter bot (I hate twitter, but love it for this challenge), you can
just log the minutes & it will add to you. So you would twit:
@langchallenge #german #books 25 pages "optional put the title here"
or
@langchallenge #german #films 30 minutes "title"
The bot will then give you credit for 1/2 a book and 1/3 a film. It's really nice and
easy to use.

Oh I forgot to add, is it imperative that I use Twitter? I'd rather just track it myself if that's not a problem

Why a new thread? Because there was so much quarrelling in this old one that it put people off participating
in the Super Challenge. But please prove my point of why it was necessary by lodging an official protest.

@Gemuse it's quite ironic that this thread was supposed to drift into nothingness but you revived it. I agree that the recommendations thread was in the wrong subforum though. It's now been moved :-) Next time just report the post and choose "post is in the wrong room". Don't worry, nobody will get automatically banned or anything :)
Cristina, last time you asked the mods to close the thread. I guess it's better to do the same with this one, too.

I am new to all this, and I don't know where to post a question.
Here perhaps?
What kind of results as far as learning did people get from the last super challenge?
Did anybody feel they made a big jump, say B1 to C1 or something?
I'm more interested in learning than anything else.

If you're interested in learning a language, then you've come to the right challenge. I couldn't place a level on it, but I went from struggling to read a page of French to choosing French short stories for light reading when I'm tired before bed.
This thread is closed, by the way. It was the pre-challenge discussion thread. Now that the challenge has started, there's a
new thread.
