Has anyone else worked through multiple Assimil courses? It seems like the Italian course has a lot more information packed into it, right from the start. At least compared to the Spanish, French, and German ones that I've been working on, it seems a lot more intensive.
I would have thought that, with my French and Spanish background, that the Italian would be easier than the German for me. But the German seems like a piece of cake so far (lesson 20), and the Italian is demanding a lot more attention (lesson 13 so far). It's not harder, it just seems like it covers a lot more ground. It may also be that I'm getting a grasp on Croatian grammar, so German grammar doesn't scare me anymore. =) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Wow, I'm totally blown away by how you're able to juggle so many languages. I've always
heard that languages become easier as you continue to learn more, though it's hard to wrap my head around. I speak Albanian on top of Spanish and lately I've been noticing that when I try and speak Albanian, my Spanish leaks into it. >< Either way, keep up the good work. I was working 60-70 hours a week between two jobs for about a year. I've learned how to manage my time well. =)
I think it's normal when you're learning for languages to leak into each other, at least a little. I have a bunch of Bosnian friends, and it's always fun to listen to them, because most of them speak English and German very well, too. When they're talking amongst themselves, I hear a lot of Germanisms in their English, and English phrases thrown into their Bosnian, especially the ones who came to Germany/US at a younger age. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I am thinking that, considering the innumerable hours I've put into Portuguese the last month or two, that I am going to put it on hold for a few months and come back to it later in the year. I think once I get finished with the Assimil series for Spanish and French, I will have more time for it, and my French will be at a better level, and I can use Assimil for Portuguese then. I tried using Pimsleur, but unless I'm exercising, I can't stay focused on it. And I'd rather listen to music (in my target languages, of course!) while I exercise. Plus, my plate is rather full right now. I think until my other Romance languages are more solid (well, French and Italian), it can wait. Too much Romance gets boring. (Well, not romance with a small r. That's always welcome! ♥) So sayonara for now, Portuguese. We will meet again, I promise! Oh, I wish there was more time in the day. Isn't there some planet I can move to where each day is 36 hours or something? I wonder if they have internet access there.

Are you from Albania? Or your parents? I have a bunch of friends from the Balkans, and I've really gotten interested in the history and cultures of the area. My interest originally stemmed from making Bosnian friends at my last job, and then deciding to learn their language. It goes beyond that now, though. There seems to be so much history and so many cultures in such a (relatively) small area. It's really fascinating. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

My kids had Spring break this week, so they were home almost every day. I have no idea how I got so much studying in, except that I stayed up late every night because I didn't have to get them off to school! (This might actually bode well for when summer comes!) The Russian TAC team has made me want to learn Russian. (Okay, it's not ALL their fault!) I got a Spanish-based Russian Assimil course a few weeks ago, and I was just thinking that . . . what's another 20-30 minutes a day for another Assimil course? I'm already doing four of them, what's one more? Its kind of strange, because I feel like I'm learning how to write all over again. And I can write fine, but I can't what I wrote yet. But I'm sure that will get easier with practice. As of right now, I have to have my other five languages done for the day before I can play with Russian, so we'll see how long I can keep it up. It actually seems to be giving me incentive to study everything else, too.
