One big problem is how the discussion was conducted. One may wish to ponder the following links:

I think slucido didn't claim there was one either - it is a "straw man" par excellence as far as this discussion goes.

I was gently poking fun at his first post.

I think that methods are not that important. The most important factor is TIME and LOVE devoted to the target language.

Thinking about that, I think the best methods are those that manages to scratch more of your time without you been aware.

For example, I think the DVD movie methods are the best. Why? Because people devote more time to the language without been aware.

Time flies when you're having fun

I do like the "ad nauseam" bit and I thought what the heck, let's make this 50 pages long.

If there "is a best method", what is it? How have you come to that conclusion?

Everyone says Slucido is wrong, that there is a a "best method," but no one can say what it is. Free icecream to whomever gets it right.

CaitO'Ceallaigh - as others have said, no one here argued for the existence of a best method. The discussion was rather about whether any method is as good as another given INPUT + OUTPUT + TIME. slucido has insisted on OBJECTIVE scientific data* yet when challenged, cannot provide statistical validity of the OBJECTIVELY SCIENTIFIC TECHNIQUES he espouses.

*Objectively scientific, meaning roughly that a study is considered valid when its results are 95% likely due to non-random forces.

Please PM me for my address. I'll let you know where to mail the ice cream.

I was very happy this morning because I saw several messages, but we continue talking about nothing

No one denies it that there's no single best method, but that doesn't mean that sensible methods (that involve input+output+time) are equally effective.

What are those sensible methods?

What evidence we have apart from subjetive preferences?

I only need consensus between experts.

Do you mean scientists are morons??

The commentaries about sex between angels are very interesting, but the question is simple:

What are those sensible methods?

What evidence we have apart from subjetive preferences? I only need consensus between experts.

Nice to see how this thread is coming along. ;-)

SLucido, you have been presented evidence: the experiences of the users of this forum. Also, the same papers you accept, for example F.H.Jackson, M.A.Kaplan, Lessons learned from fifty years of theory and practice in government language teaching, reinforce the same evidence. I'm afraid that you won't find other evidence in these Forums. You should perhaps try Google Scholar or other forums, if the users of this forum are not experts enough for you.
