Both r sounds work, choice depends on the

Out of curiosity, is there a dialect that uses both uvular and alveolar? Maybe depending on the sounds around it? Probably a silly question... 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Thanks, good to know. I've only recently begun to notice the difference in quality
between the rolled uvular and the alveolar and so I may just have had the notion from listening to Dutch for so long with untrained ears. Funny (though I suppose actually logical) that only now since learning to produce the rolled uvular myself can I distinguish the two. So I can talk about it now. Remember Arnon Grunberg, widely considered the greatest living Dutch author? Whose books, which I logged in this very journal, I totally adore? Well, I MET HIM. IT WAS GREAT. It seems inappropriate to write more about this in a public forum, but yeah, for the record, he is awesome and a very nice person. His columns on the front page of de Volkskrant are hilarious. Aside from that, I read a
