It's a great idea to do a summary for a week...but mine would be weak...

Okay, I think HTLAL has officially pushed me over the edge…. I could no longer resist the
temptation to order Le Norvégienfrom Assimil. So for the 6WC I will be learning Norwegian starting from absolute
zero -- and probably in the process learning how to discuss things like grammar and language learning in
French. :-P |

(from the 6WC thread)
Tastyonions, you may enjoy this article on Norwegian as the
easiest language
for English speakers to learn. I happened upon it recently, but realized afterwards that it had been authored by
Htlal member Mithridates, and previously linked (by Jeff Lindqvist) on a thread re. “Which Nordic
language to learn?”. – So you may perhaps already have seen it from there.
It's an interesting piece, though it has the unfortunate side-effect of giving me a mild case of linguistic
wanderlust. (But I will stand firm and resist...)

Thanks. I had actually read the article before but it is interesting and nice to read again.
Also, I got Le Norvégien today! I'm not sure if I'll enter myself in the 6WC after all, though, because I don't think I'll have the time to really engage with it while simultaneously keeping up with French and schoolwork. I still intend to use the book to learn Norwegian, though, when I can find the time.

What made you choose Norwegian?

I've always had a bit of an interest in the Nordic countries, and Norway in particular. It may have originated when my dad used to go there on business and would tell me about his trips. Norwegian and Swedish have also always been my favorite languages to hear on a purely sonic level. And I'd love to visit Norway one day because its landscapes look amazing.

1. Assimil Passive Phase is done, with Lesson 113 completed tonight. The final lesson was pretty easy, a contrast from several before it. Active Phase Lesson 64 went okay. I was fairly good on the grammar but had some vocabulary holes.
2. Conversation group Wednesday was good, with more native speakers than usual, the regular guy from Morocco, and a group of new ones from France and from Belgium. They were fun to talk with, so I hope they return next week. Much more experienced learners have been complimenting my French regularly, even though I'm quite aware it needs a toooon of work. :-)
3. My tutoring session Thursday went well. It was sort of a different format this time, centered around a subject that she had chosen beforehand. I enjoyed it this way and asked her if she could do it like that again next time.
4. With school starting to speed up I don't think I'll have time to give Norwegian the attention it deserves, so I'm going to hold off on it for now and just keep my focus on French. But I'll probably flip through the book sometimes and listen to some of the recordings anyway, just to get a preview. :-P
