As long as the principle of a half Super challenge is accepted, I see no reason why people can't do two half Super challenges or 1 1/2 Super challenge. The only thing I would be reluctant to accept would be 62 1/2 % Super challenge or something like that. I would go crazy trying to keep up with that. I would then rather recommend to sign up for a full Super challenge - there is no shame in not going all the way :-) |

*perks up* I played with this idea for a while. I think I'll do two 50/50s, one in French and one in Japanese. I have about an equal number of books in French and Japanese(20-25 when you look at the pages though I'll probably pick up at LEAST 10 more when I go to Japan), and it shouldn't be too difficult to find movies dubbed in French at the library, which is walking distance from my house. They seem to have some in Japanese too.

Being honest to myself, I don't have the time for such a challenge. But I feel like reviving my blog and including short book/movie reviews, so I guess getting hyped up wasn't all in vain.

Getting hyped up is never in vain:-) This is a steep challenge, I have every respect for those who see that it
is not for them. I do not even know if I will make it myself, but if several of us manage to do more than we
otherwise would have, and even just a few of us break the finishing line within New Year's Eve 2013 I will
still cry success. And here we do not get one winner. We might possibly get someone who reaches the goal
first, but every single person who completes a full or a half Super challenge is truly a winner.

Yes, absolutely - this isn't the kind of competition where you're up against the other participants. Kind of like a marathon where you want every one else to get through (at least, that's what it's like for those of us who run somewhere near the back in these things!) rather than a short fast race where you want to win.
I got a gift voucher for Grant & Cutler - fabulous language book shop in London - for my birthday last week, so I'm really looking forward to a trip to London to use it on books for the challenge - that way I'll get to see how difficult they are rather than just guessing on online sites.

Alright... against my better judgement I shall do a mixed Half Challenge for Chinese.

You know what, I'm going to be honest with myself because I will not be able to complete
a full super challenge. So I am now changing to half challenge for Italian.

I've been in two minds about whether to continue my current study of French, or to turn back to Hindi for the super challenge. I have just started taking a class on Hinduism (well, it starts Monday), and I have loads of books and DVD's in Hindi. On the other hand, I started learning French about a year ago, am about halfway through Assimil, and will be in France and Belgium for two weeks this summer. I don't want to lose my momentum with French. I think I will be settling on doing two 50/50 challenges. I doubt I'll hit the target with either language, but I'll enjoy the fun of trying!
I'm planning to count 4 episodes of French in Action as 1 film. Is that about the right ratio?
EDIT: I have another question. I have a bilingual (French/English) copy of The Little Prince, which is 103 pages. However, my German-only copy is 111 pages. I think the reason is that the bilingual copy is large format. So do I count the bilingual copy as a half book or a full book?

This is coming along at the perfect time for me. I was planning on picking my German back up on May 1st. Although, I'm a really slow reader in English, let alone another language, so I'll be opting for the half Super Challenge of watching 100 German films.
