Surrealix, are you going to program an undo function into the bot? It would be really helpful for those of us (well, *me*) who sometimes make mistweets.   =)

I think Surrealix is busy writing his dissertation so we'll have to be patient.

I knew he was busy with something, but I didn't know what. I don't mind being patient. I have lots of patience (as long as my children aren't involved - then sometimes I am lacking, a little!).

I just have an extra 100 words of writing listed that shouldn't be, and I feel like I'm being dishonest about it. LOL

Since I'm not actually Twitter-enabled, how are people currently counting books? Has
everybody switched over to 100x100 pages or are some people still counting books by the
old rules.

It doesn't much matter to me either way, but I'd love to be consistent with everybody
else. Thank you!

I've been posting my books as I read them, or as I read large parts of them for the
longer books, followed by how many pages it has.

The twitter-bot counts in blocks of 100, so you don't have to post every 100 pages
yourself.

e.g.: I've posted 50 pages, 165 pages, 20 pages, and 75 pages. Twitter is counting this
as 310 pages, or 3 "books."

So write 100 words more, and then you'll be honest :) I have a bunch of titles that are missing, but I can be patient too.

Twitter counts in blocks of 100 and that is the official way to count according to the new rules. I am using twitter so it counts every 100 pages as a book.

On my own blog, however, I am counting after both the new rules and the old rules. I have widgets that show how far I've gotten and I have two for books. One for old rules, and one for new rules. I am still hoping to make it to 100 books by the old rules, though I can see already that is going to be near impossible. After the week I've had, I've fallen way behind, so I'll have to work extra hard if I want to catch up. And I see many such weeks in the future.

If my description is confusing, there is a link to my blog under my name so you can see what I mean. The widgets are the bars on the right side.

If I prefer, can I count subtitles for books rather than movies? I won't obviously count anything twice and one subtitled movie will be no more than half a book.

As for old vs new, I'm using the new ones mostly, but as it's not a tadoku I don't think it has to be so precise. As per the old rules, anything under 100 pages is a half-book, whether it's 50 or 60 or 40.

Is anyone else going to do intensive reading? I'm thinking of something like this:

1. reading with an audiobook on
2. just reading
3-4. reading slowly, consciously guessing the unfamiliar words but not looking up
5. skimming, focusing on the structure of the text
6. reading aloud
7. reading normally and looking up the important words
8. reading slowly and looking up the descriptive words
9. reading normally
10. reading aloud, hopefully understanding everything by now

this way if you reread 10 pages 10 times, it'll count as a whole book :) Somehow this seems far less intimidating than just reading 100 pages, though in German I'd rather stumble through Goethe than do this :D

I started out by looking up every word I didn't know. That was too disruptive and
prevented me from getting into the flow of the story. But if I didn't look up a lot of
words I lost the train of the story and I didn't understand what was going on.

By my third or fourth novel I could go several pages at a time without having to look
up a word, and I skipped "minor" words until I had seen them several times.

Now, having read a dozen or so I just read for enjoyment and look up a word now and
then when it seems like it might be important to the story. Mostly I can guess the
meaning from the larger context of the story as well as the immediate context of the
sentence.
