I'm getting more and more eager to start the new year. I've just started warming up by listening to some magical Russian folk songs.
For the team name; I like Teango's suggestions, especially Team Alix - I can never resist Russian words that contain the letter и. :) Another name that popped into my mind is Team Sputnik. Not only referring to (Soviet) Russia's impressive and successful space project, but also to its charming original meaning: спутник = travelling companion. :) Edited by M. Mmm. More suggestions for names, excellent! My own thoughts went towards a name which would immediately identify us as the Russian team to the general public, like Tolstoy or Tsjajkovskij, but I like both of Teangos suggestions too, particularly Alix, as I am more into princesses than mountains. Sputnik is not a bad idea either. It is both immediately identifiable with Russian and has has the great original meaning. This will be hard to decide.

The reason I like the mountain idea is that it lends itself to metaphoric interpretations
involving achievement and exploration - it's about striving towards a goal and measuring progress in terms of altitude. A bit like the Trans Siberian Express thing. However, speaking of altitude, Sputnik means aiming even higher and Team Sputnik has grown on me ever since I read the suggestion this morning. It's catchy! And I'm fascinated by the American space program, The Right Stuff being one of my favourite movies, but I don't know much about its Soviet counterpart and would love to learn more. I like Medialis' suggestion of "Team Sputnik" too! It's even higher than a mountain, a great motif for success, and I'd imagine immediately recognisable to many as Russian.

YES!!!!! You are soooo welcome on the team. You and Teango were my best off team support, and with the two of you actually ON my team this year and three more members who know so much more Russian than I do plus are amazing people, this has got to be a smashing team. Team Sputnik might be a really good name for us! I'd like to join this but I am afraid I am still not clear on what the TAC consists of.
I've read the threads but I am not sure what I am actually supposed to do. Might somebody please explain it to me? I'm hoping to get my Russian up to brush before I go off to college, and this winter break will hopefully be a productive one. 1 person has voted this message useful |
