As I said earlier today on my Log (http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/f orum/forum_posts.asp?TID=30625&PN=1&TPN=6), I read a very interesting and nice Russian tale on the book I'm using right now. The book is Русский Язык" by Овсиенко. Усадьба находилась километрах в пятнадцати от ближнего села. Второй день продолжалась сильная метель. Ехать в такую погоду в сельскую церковь на Рождественскую службы было нельзя. Мы сидели, пили чай, разговаривали. И вдруг мой приятель сказал: - А хотите, я расскажу вам случай, который произошёл со мной лет двадцать назад, как раз в Рождественскую ночь. Я согласился с большими удовольствием. - Лет двадцать назад я учился в гимназии, - начал он - И вот моя тётя пригласила меня к себе на рождественские каникулы. Я был очень рад. Тётя жила в маленьком усадьбе, деревню я любил и знал, что хорошо там проведу время. Всё было так, как я и думал: я вкусно ел, много гулял и с нетерпением ждал Рождественскую ночь. Ближнее село, где была церковь, находилось от нас километрах в восьми. Но накануне Рождества тётушка моя заболела, а я обязательно хотел быть в церкви. Дорога к селу была прямая, и я решил идти один пешком. Тётушка советовала поехать на лошади, но я любил ходить пешком и дорогу знал хорошо. И вот поздно вечером я вышел из дома. Сначала вокруг было тихо, но через некоторое время поднялся ветер, началась метель. Я шёл, а метель становилась всё сильнее и сильнее. И вот я уже не видел дорогу. Я испугался. Впереди, влево, вправо - везде был только снег и ветер. Я устал и не знал, что делать. И вдруг мне показалось, что я слышу звук колокола. "Слава Богу, значит, это село", - подумал я и пошёл на этот звук. Когда я сделал несколько шагов, я увидел маленькую церковь. Она стояла одна посреди белого поля. Вокруг не было ни одной избы. Я вошёл в церковь, она была пуста, хотя перед иконами горели свечи. Я был счастлив. Опасность миновала. Подойдя к иконе, я упал на пол и тотчас забылся. Когда я пришёл в себя, я увидел, что лежу на кровати, а около меня сидит тётушка. - Ну слава Богу! - сказала она, увидев, что я открыл глаза. - А ведь ты чуть не замёрз. Тебя нашли в поле около креста. Как только началась метель, я послала работника на лошади. Он и нашёл тебя. Я слушал тётушку и ничего не понимал. Какой крест? Я же был в церкви. Почему меня нашли в поле? Я рассказал всё, что я видел. Тётушка удивилась: - Никакой церкви у нас поблизости нет. Есть в поле крест километрах в четырёх от усадьбы, около этого креста тебя и нашли. Уже потом я знал, что этот деревянный крест с давних времён стоит на том месте, где когда-то стояла церковь. Люди говорят, что однажды эта церковь ушла в землю и выходит на поверхность только один раз в год - в ночь на Рождество Христово. - Ну и что вы об этом думаете? - спросил меня приятель, за кончив рассказ. Я ничего не смог ответить. По А. Здравствуйте дорогие друзья!
Today I was thinking: when I study Russian, I choose a Russian book and I learn to read it using a dictionary, right? But it is frustrating that I can not tell if I am having a proper pronuntiation, because I am not a native speaker and I don't have any native speakers at hand. And viceversa: I try to listen to radio broadcasts, but I can only catch a word now and then. Most of the words are not understood, and I can not even look for them in the dictionary because I do not know how they are written. Let me share with you how I try to solve these problems, and you will tell me your ideas. As for the first problem (convert text to speech) useful tools are in my opinion the google translator (which allows us to listen to a voice pronouncing the word we typed) and another one, imtranslator. Has anyone found another interesting solution? As for the opposite problem (converting a Russian speech audio file into text) I think it could be solved using some translator tools as Dragon Naturally Speaking, but I'd like to know what you guys think about it. Is it possible? Is there another solution? I think we could take advantage of professional translators tools, in order to maximize our Russian learning experience. I eagerly await for your comments. I was actually thinking along the same lines, drsarvo! Some people think it's a bad idea
for beginners to rely on computer Text-To-Speech (TTS) because they may not be natural at times, but I say, as long as you have other sources of natural input, such as audio books, movies/TV, radio podcasts/music, then using TTS won't be detrimental to your progress. In fact, I think eventually we'll be able to identify where the speech generator fails. And the more audio for Russian, the better! I wouldn't give Google Translate much credit. When I was at the beginning of my Dutch studies, I used Google Translate to learn the right pronounciation, and mostly to find out what the "stressed" syllable of the word was.....and maaaaany times it gave me a wrong stress. You can use LingQ. They have texts in many languages with the respective audio file, so you can do some L-R. It's a good tool! 1 person has voted this message useful |
