In a certain sense, you're right. The problems I quoted won't bother anybody until they try to
achieve fluency on the highest registers of both languages, which are filled with archaic and
Latinate words. That is, if your aim is not full bilingualism, but polyglottery, then it's not
really a problem.

On HTLAL bilingualism usually means having two native languages. And yeah, neither me nor kuji is going to move to Brazil or Portugal, so it's not very relevant. Although I would argue that if you want to be native-like in European Portuguese, you should also understand the Brazilian variety as well as Portuguese people do.
Don't worry, I'm sure kuji knows that it's not so simple with those transparent and semi-transparent words. BTW nowadays I'm picking up quite a few English words while learning my Romance languages, such as exigent.
