-----

("Wanneer komt ... uit?" is never used for people. It's only used for books, films, cd's etc. "wanneer komt het boek uit?" means "when does the book come out?" I suppose you meant to ask Bart "waar" he comes from, rather than "when".

To my knowledge there's no real accepted translation for "thread". It's just called "thread" but usually pronounced like the Dutch word "tred". More or less like "threat", but with /t/ rather than /th/, but oviously not like "treat".

"studiert" is the German past participle for "studieren". The Dutch past participle for "studeren" is "gestudeerd".

I'm really sorry for the information overload, but I hope it helped. Permission to nickpick my English off-thread.)

Puntinel, hoe leert U Nederlands? goede Programme? any recommendations?

Groetjes, Tuffy

That is really impressive! Although you make a lot of mistakes (mixing up German with Dutch mostly) I still think that it is awesome that you, as an American with absolutely no need to learn our language, are able to write a forum posting like that!

If I find the time I'll correct your posting (just as you're free to correct my English!) but I can only say: keep up the good work!

Thanks for the kind words. I've actually only studied very little Dutch several years ago, but was able to pick some up when I travelled to the Netherlands and Belgium. Living in Germany helped too because I had access to some Dutch TV. I can mostly just read and listen, hence why my writing is awful. I can speak a little, but resort to speaking German with a Dutch accent if I don't know the word : P But after reading your postings, I think I'll have to try to find the time to learn some more Dutch. Thanks for the encouragement!

By the way, your English is perfect! Please do correct my posting. It might take a while : P
