Thanks for the feedback Renate! Yes, looking back on it now I'm recognizing those mistakes as well haha. Also, I totally blanked out on the formal/polite version of 오다 and I conjugated it really weirdly too haha. 들어주셔서 works closest to what I meant to say :P
Also, I'm soooooooo excited for this month's challenge! My friends and I go to karaoke at least biweekly, so singing and rapping K-Pop is something very fun and familiar for me. I can't wait :D 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Future Challenges
Yes, escape from the song challenge is futile. You know the team dictator well, Evita ;) Speaking of which, if anyone else wants to formulate a challenge, let me know. We can all have a go if you like. I have a couple more ideas, but the year is long... I'm glad you're excited about the challenge, picnick! Nick씨 앞으로도 재미있는 동용상을 만들어 주겠다고 했죠... 그럼 한번 노래 불러주실거죠, 네? ㅋㅋㅋ ^^ I've just decided spontaneously that this time I'm going to try the challenge with Mandarin, my total beginner language (or maybe false beginner, since I understand some words). So excited! Picking a song wasn't easy, but I think I'll attempt 借口 (Excuse) by Jay Chou. From the translation it seems the lyrics are fairly straightforward and the words seem useful to know. I hope it didn't fool me! I originally thought of Jang Ki Ha's 싸구려 커피 (Cheap Coffee), if there's time, I'll work on that as well. Jay Chou is famous for singing in a very "blurry" way, which makes lyrics difficult to understand even to native speakers (at least for some songs)！
I don't think it's really a challenge (it's so recreating!), but learning a few songs is definitely part of my plan for this month! I'll go with the following: Japanese : There are three songs I love from 椎名林檎: ギブス, 罪与罚 and 本能 Korean : I have no plan initially, but I may go back to last year's songs: KCM - 알아요 (which has the most lyrics, and I still remember quite well), and perhaps easy songs that I love like 들국화 - 그것만이 내 세상 and 전인권 - 미인 Minnanhua : very important here, as I'd like to get a chance to impress this summer if I get to go to a KTV. I'm targeting a few classics (beware, apart from the first, those are absolutely cheesy, but I love them). I've started 陳雷 - 欢喜就好 which I love, and I'll probably try to tackle 朱咪咪 - 舞女, 洪榮宏 - 一支小雨伞 and Joyce Lim - 乾一杯. Classical Chinese : does a song with a few quotes from Confucius count? If yes, then 卜學亮 - 子曰. This one would actually be quite a challenge for Mandarin (and there's a bit of Cantonese in it?) given the speed and the repetition of the sound pattern. Breton : I had planned to learn this one last month, but didn't get a chance yet. Denez Prigent - Son Alma Ata Mandarin: tooooo many to choose from (I can suggest a few good and easy songs if anyone wants), but I think I'll go with 郑智化 - 大国民 for the subversive lyrics. :-) I "may" need more than February to learn all that! Great list of songs you've put together! 郑智化《大国民》that song is so cool! I suppose I won't get that melody out of my head for a while. Good idea to suggest some easy songs. I could try to help with that for Korean as well.
Thanks for the warning! It does sounds really slurred in some places. I suppose I won't rely entirely on him for the pronunciation then. I plan to study the words separately anyway. Maybe reciting the lyrics and asking you all to check the pronunciation and tones would be a good idea. I'm looking forward to some music in Thai and Khmer, hopefully :) Just to randomly celebrate the beauty of other Asian languages, here is my favourite Mongolian song (not that I actually know many...): Mongolian Folk Song 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Before someone else does, I'm calling - 陳綺貞 - 下個星期去英國 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ts-3vDbkN7I Cheer Chen - Next Week I'm Going To England) because a friend sent it to me (along with a few other songs) and I'm kind of curious to decipher it. Yes, I do simplified not traditional characters, yes there's only one line I come remotely close to understanding at the minute (我知道你想要... - I know you want to...) but I'm English (or British to avoid annoying my ancestry) and think it sounds fun.
iawia - Thank you so much for the corrections! I had come across "正在" - this is the problem I have with not activating my knowledge enough. Something to work on. Similarly, I knew the "、" mark to seperate lists, but wanted to go to bed more than find how to type it on my keyboard! Sorry, I'll have to remember that in future. 太谢谢你了! druckfehler - Not another aspiring writer, just one who likes to write (when he has time...). Interesting challenge. I'm not a huge fan of Chinese music, granted I haven't looked
hard. So my first challenge will be tracking down something I'm interested in. Any suggests for good music is welcome. I'm in for this months challenge! 1 person has voted this message useful |
