Happy Khmer New Year សួរស្តីឆ្នាំថ្មី! It's crazy in Cambodia right now, everyone is partying and people stand by the
roads throwing water and flour. Pick up trucks filled with guys cruise the streets and then stop at all the guys jump out and start bombing people haha! Such a fun time of year! 大家你好。I haven't been very present lately but I just wanted to pop in and say I'm still on board, only very busy
(including chinese). I haven't done march's challenge although I tried. It was way too difficult for me. I'm sure to do april's though, for I meet weekly with a chinese woman with whom I converse in chinese a little. Interesting! Thanks for sharing that info with us, Bakunin and js6426! There are so many new years around the world... If I ever get to go on a trip around the world I want to celebrate new year's as many times as possible in one year :) I guess China, Korea and Japan all have the same date?

Happy new year then!! :)
I wish to announce that I pretty much did this month's challenge with Japanese! In the end, instead of doing a difficult topic with my flatmate, I just ended up talking proper japanese with her parents who came today. It was indeed quite important for me as I haven't really talked proper (by that I mean polite) Japanese for a long time and it used to be mostly in impolite form (as a reflex). But this time I actually was able to talk in good Japanese, about very different topics (my future, life in France, my flatmate (so, their daughter), etc.). It was quite stressful but her parents being nice, it went well! If I find a difficult topic to talk about in Japanese with my flatmate, then I will do it, but even not doing it, I would still consider my challenge as done. 4 persons have voted this message useful | |

sounds great, yuhakko! I can totally relate to the politeness level problem... I always get very nervous when trying to talk to old people, teachers, etc. in Korean. Using the correct verb endings isn't much of a problem, but always using the right words and not leaving out the honorific is a real challenge.

Exactly, using the right words, the right intonation, etc, is quite the challenge
sometimes. Yesterday evening, when I went back home, my flatmate was still there with her parents. We started talking about differences between teas (I love tea). I had quite a bit of trouble figuring out what her father said regarding ingredients in teas, slight differences in taste, but in the end, I could follow the discution. wow, that sounds like a difficult topic... I wonder whether I'd be able to follow that, seems like there would be a lot of very specific vocabulary...
