We've pretty much had every aspect of language learning in the other languages, so I think making it an open challenge would be a good idea. Something like you decide what to do, post that on the team thread and report whether you met your own goal at the end of the month. Anyone have a different idea? If you can think of an interesting more specific challenge that would be great, too.

So would something like "Read a paragraph of Chinese every day" be a valid goal?

Sure! Whatever you think is a suitable challenge (doable, but something you might not do if it wasn't a challenge) is a valid goal ;)

Asian fellers! Have you any idea whether the DLI Korean course is worth a shot? I'm
looking to combine my audio-based input and explanations for Korean with some reading material, and I am thinking the DLI Basic Korean course will have lots of solid reading passages. Any thoughts? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I've never used it before, i just know that the ERIC site is down due to the government shutdown in the US, so hope you've either already downloaded it or it's available elsewhere.
Btw, in China everyone talked about how easy Korean was whereas i've always heard that it's one of the most difficult languages. What's your experience been? I know where it is. I just wondered if anybody had used it? What are your opinions?
I do not think of languages in terms of difficult. It's a bit different from what I'm used to, but then I should just get used to Korean. It's certainly not yet a known quantity. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

tarvos, if you mean this FSI course then no, I didn't use it because there's no hangeul there.
If you want to practice reading, here are two books you can try. They are completely free and legal. At first there are just comics but later you get some real texts as well. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

I haven't used it, only had a look at some of the lessons. It might not be suitable as your main textbook (I can't really judge it from my current perspective, but someone said the grammar explanations were not enough, as far as I remember), but as reading material it should be fine. I actually really like the new DLI versions (also had a look at Dari a while ago), they seem useful and fun, but - like all the FSI/DLI material - seem rather challenging. I used the G.L.O.S.S. lessons a lot (there are many for Korean) and they also have good reading texts and exercises - but they are very difficult even in the low levels and will probably only get interesting later on in your Korean journey, depending on how hard you like your lessons to be.
