Guys, lots of news!
I've finally had my REAL 1at French class today at university and it was reaaaally cool! Despite the fact that I didn't learn much because it's pretty basic stuff for now, but anyway, it's always good to start =) Je m'appelle Fabricio Carraro et j'étudi Ingénierie Informatique à l'université! Ahahah =P Also, I've been chatting A LOT with Russians on Livemocha, it's being great! I've never had such practice until now (except whilst in Russia). I've also completed lessons 42, 43 AND 44 of my Dutch Assimil! I also reviewed ALL lessons from lesson 1. And thanks to @tarvos, I spent 1~2 hours of my Sunday studying FSI Swedish! I can't handle studying 4 languages at the same time, but it feels great to wanderlust a little bit =P Although, their vowels made me crazy already. I can't barely hear the difference between the "O" and the "A" with a little ball on top of it (except when it's pronounced like "u"), also, the "Y"...ARGH! I'll probably get back to it someday, but it's scared me a little already. It's been a great week! =) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I don't think there is any difference in pronunciation between the o and the å. At least in Norwegian it is the exact same sound, and I would imagine that it is in Swedish too.

I think short it's more or less the same but long o in Swedish is like "oo" in book.

You are right, and to complicate things furter, in Norwegian the rules are more flexible (random). In the words som (as) and lom(a kind of bird) the vowel is short in both, but som is pronounced with an o and lom like oo. Normally a double consonant indicates a short vowel and a single consonant a long vowel,
