Great weekend, my friends!
Since my wife started taking English lessons on Italki, I decided that I also want to start taking lessons again. To my surprise, my former Russian teacher from there has now many other times available, which will suit me perfectly! I already have a lesson with her scheduled for this Wednesday.
Also, yesterday I had an Italian lesson with an Italki tutor as well, just to take the rust off my Italian, since I haven't spoken it in quite a while. The teacher was a very nice med student from Pescara, and he complimented my Italian so many times, especially my accent! It was even a surprise for me, because about an year ago I talked to an Italian guy and he said that, despite my grammar and vocab being great, my Brazilian accent was still somewhat strong. This tutor said though that my accent is almost perfect, so that he wouldn't know where I was from, "maybe some place in Italy or Switzerland". Maybe he was just being nice, but in any case that was a great ego booster, and it's good to know that my level hasn't decreased so much. We talked for a little more than 1 hour, 100% in Italian, and it was great to be able to speak it again.... it makes me feel... more alive =)
I was looking for a French tutor as well, but they're all expensive. Meanwhile, I'll start taking Dutch lessons with our own Italki tutor, @tarvos! I'm sure it'll be great!

Hey guys!
Just some quick news! I had my Russian Italki lesson this week, and I DEFINITELY must read/speak more Russian! Haha I'm starting to get rusty and make silly mistakes. I'll try to have at least one lesson a week!
Apart from that, I recorded a video for the #Add1Challenge in French, but it's so bad that I'm too shy to post it here hahaha anyway, it's a good practice, since I hardly ever speak it!
Dutch is the next one!

Hallo allemaal!

@tarvos Dank je!

Hello my dearest online friends!
This last Sunday was my birthday (yay!) so I couldn't study much the entire weekend. I did, however, drink a lot of beer and had a lot of Brazilian barbecue with my wife, parents and family =)
Anyway, I have a question about Japanese! I know that a hidden log among 283979283 others isn't the best place for it, but I didn't want to create a new topic for such a dumb question. =P Here it goes: is it possible to learn Japanese without learning the Kanji? I know that it's the most commonly used alphabet together with hiragana, but I'm a practical guy who wants practical solutions.
When I practice my languages chatting with people I'm usually at work, and I don't think I'll have the time or patience to search through a loot of symbols in order to write a single word, when writing it phonetically with hiragana seems much easier.
I know I won't be able to read much without it, but I fear falling for the same problem as Arabic: transliteration problems. I think it's much easier, since the patterns and syllables in Japanese are quite weel established and accepted internationally, but my point is: will I be able to chat with a Japanese person in kana, and also, will the person do the same with me? Or will he/she throw kanji in the middle of sentences and make me crazy? =P
I don't want to spend a lot of time learning kanji now, or Japanese for that matter, it's just a hypothetical question in case I went wanderlust =)

Typing Kanji (or Hanja for Korean) is easy I think - you type in the word in kana and you click on the converter and it gives you a list of Kanji (Hanja) which you can insert for that word. So you just write it phonetically (for Hanzi you use pinyin input I think) and c'est tout, you have a converter in your keyboard bar at the bottom.
