Well I started studying Heisig last night about midnight and then stayed up all night to finish it off. I thought I
would rest easier having finally finished it. It's good to be "done" with it. I have a lot of reviews though in my
SR deck for it. Almost all of them lol. It's kind of neat that my app gives me credit for getting it right after
several months of not looking at the card - the next interval is ovef 60 days for some of the cards (if I get them
right on the 1st try). That's a bit rewarding. But pretty much any kanji I've seen used in a word I've studied I
remember thanks to Heisig. So another good way to keep them fresh is to just learn more vocabulary. With
that in mind I might be getting back to book 2 which I started a couple of months ago but got distracted from.
I'll use it to learn the vocabulary as well as the sounds of the kanji. I'm not sure how to best integrate this in
with my other goals in the language at the moment though. I also want to focus vocabulary for the JPLT N3
(there's tons of it that I don't know yet) and I like just learning lots of words that I lookup myself from anime or
online or from Harry Potter. And then there's the grammar I'm trying to learn ahead of time for the fall when I
start my course. And I kind of wanted to do Rosetta Stone and get it done. A lot on the plate lol.

I might start in on RTK 3 sooner than later. I've started making a separate deck of cards for new kanji that I
have in my new vocab that aren't in RTK 1 (most words just use RTK 1 kanji but it happens that you get
others). Previously I just added the kanji's meaning to the vocab card and moved on but now I'm making a
little story for it and adding it to the new deck for reviewing with the RTK deck.. I just started doing this this
afternoon. Somehow, since I hadn't finished RTK 1, it didn't occur to me to be adding new kanji from vocab
to the deck complete with stories.

That said I'd like to use the meanings that Heisig created along with any primitives etc. I'm going to have to
at least skim RTK 3 I think. However, embarking on 1000 new kanji at this point seems like a lot of extra
work if I haven't learned vocabulary for all of the RTK 1 kanji yet.

I'd say wait on RTK 3. Enjoy finally finishing RTK 1 (I only ever got to like 1850 when I was studying Japanese) now that you're finally done with that part of Japanese. Take a break from learning kanji, solidify the ones you know (since they are the important ones), learn some new words, and months later start on RTK 3.

That makes sense. I think I will skim it. I'm not going to sit down and try to learn 1000 new kanji though.
Especially since they come up so infrequently.

So I wonder if the sit is actually fixed..l typed a rather long entry over the weekend and then the site went
back down and it's gone...

Well to be brief I'm making my focus RTK 2 for the rest of August. As my course approaches I may switch to
something more in line for the course ie speaking and or reviewing grammar. For now I think it would cool to
know the pronunciations of as many kanji as possible.

The site underwent a database back-roll (unnecessarily I think, but I may be wrong about that) to get it up and running so everything posted in the last few days has gone poof. Unil the site is definitely fixed it may well happen again, so I'd wait for a few days or an official 'green light' post from the admin or moderators before posting anything you wouldn't want to vanish.

I don't want anything to vanish lol. I'm not home but I'll probably back up what I write then at home. And
maybe just keep things short.

This is kinda silly but to be honest I have to say that I'm still not completely convinced that Japanese "works" as a language. Stupid right? It's just so backwards.. and the vocabulary.. the way they make words.. just combining kanji etc.. with so few sounds in the language. I think I went through this with other languages too but it's been a while. For example, Spanish just doesn't use a subject hardly ever. And when reading a book my brain just didn't want to come to terms with that. It's fine now. But it wasn't before. With Japanese it's the vocabulary and kanji and how they seem to get their words just combining kanji arbitrarily or something. I'm sure it'll make sense eventually. I just need more exposure to the language.

New word for me I just got from watching Nodame Cantible. I'm sure I've heard it before but I'm getting better at picking out new words:

悪夢(あくむ)or nightmare (or evil dream)

Which reminds me of 悪魔. Which reminds me of 悪人

So just take あく and combine it with something to get it's evil version right. Except that あく can mean other things too like 開く. Ugh. Oh well.
