it really depends on where you get your scans from. For example, I have found some pretty nice big scans over at raw-manga.net the furigana are sometimes still hard to read though. then again, even with "real" manga the furigana are sometimes a pain because they are just so small.

I'm a little bummed right now. I didn't win anything at the speech contest. I didn't really expect to but you still
get your hopes up. People that know me said I did very well. I got a little bit tripped up and a certain point
and I don't recall exactly how or what - I might have caught myself and done it perfectly I'm not sure. Nobody
noticed anything off. I'll post a video on youtube later when I get the DVD that they make of it. Unfortunately
nobody recorded it on their phone for me. Obviously I'll post a link here when I do.

Sorry to hear that. :(
But hey, at least you got a chance to speak Japanese in front of a large number of
people, including native speakers of Japanese I suppose.
Back to the training grounds then - next year you'll show them who's boss! ;)

Thanks. I can't compete next year though.. This contest is for people
taking Japanese 101-202. I'll be too advanced.

Well the speech was a good learning experience and so I'm really
glad I did it. But the let down is still distracting me.. Out of 13 people
I'm not sure but I think 6 people got awards so knowing you're in the
bottom half kind of takes away from it. But it's good that they make
an effort to recognize as many people as possible.. Oh well. In a
week I'll be over it I'm sure. Atm I can't focus as well on my studying
:-\.
I got to see a student from last year who took 202 a year ago (and
won the speech contest). He did the JLPT 3 and passed it last
December. We talked about his preparation and he's a computer
language addict like us and uses anki etc. He had some good tips. I'll
not be taking a college course and doing a full time job so I hoping
that I will pass this time around. 2 points out last time.. Not sure
how close I came in this speech contest to getting an award but I need to end this
failing yet being really close. It's discouraging.

Well I'm getting over it emotionally faster than expected. I'm gonna start a kanji deck right now and I'm looking forward to that. I'm way behind on my SRS vocab deck though - the speech contest and all - I all but ignored it the past week and have like 700 due (crap!).
I'm not sure how to do the kanji deck yet. I'm basically doing it to learn the sounds to kanji. Most kanji is in the RTK 1 book but some kanji in my vocab isn't. I could either do it like a Heisig deck and put the kanji meaning on side 1 and then make myself draw it and also produce the common sounds or just skip the drawing and test myself for recognition and knowing the sound...
*edit*
I'm gonna do the drawing method for now and see how it goes. I haven't written anything in a while..

Yeah I'm waiting on the dvd to see how I did. I know one person who
read their speech off a piece of paper beat me which is an insult to
anyone who didn't rely on such. I remember some kid laughing and
getting paranoid for a second. But I knew it well enough that there
really wasn't way I could forget it for more than a second or so.
