Thank you for the tip and the empathy. It does sound like a really long time to fill! I'm hoping to play a video
or something.

I got a new phone.. Nexus 4. I love this phone. I think it'll be my last for a while unless the new iphone is something amazing. I don't think it will be but I am pretty sure it will be expensive. I'm pretty shocked this phone is half as much as an iphone or S4. It responds so nicely.
Anyway. I went through the whole rooting and enabling Japanese fonts again. Here's a link to the fix I used:
forum post of some guy explaining how he fixed Japanese fonts Android
It does leave some steps out like that you need to root your phone and then get a file manager app of some sort to copy files and rename files in the system directory in Android. What gets me is that the author used a more aesthetic font than the default Japanese Android font. I can't figure out how to download said font and I'd really like to. But for now I'm happy with just having Correct Japanese fonts display while I have the phone set to English.

Still loving the phone. I was getting annoyed with it because the wifi seemed so slow
on it compared to my iPhone but I patched a new firmware to the router and like magic
it works great. I've discovered there's a lot of nice text to speech software for
android too including Japanese. I'm sure I'll play with that some more later. Right
now I decided I'll be slacking on my srs decks and trying putting time into iKnow
instead. I read a post on this website that some guy wrote (well more a link to his
blog) and he's gone through 20k flashcards.. Yes an anki addict. He talked about the
importance of pictures more than anything else in his flashcards. I could add pics
too but iKnow does that for you so why bother. And it tests you in a variety of
ways.. I don't get any control over what words I study but I think that's not so bad.

Sweet. I got a new Japanese font working on my android phone. And there's more fonts I could try but I think I will stick with this one because it's working and I like it. I got the font off this site..
List of Japanese fonts for free
I'm using the #2 font on the list.. aquafont. The #1 popular has a bad link unfortunately but it looks nice. The one nice thing about kanji is that it's beautiful. It kind of made me frustrated that it looked so bleh on my phone.
I'm back to my SRS deck. I wanted to ignore it and do iKnow instead but I just get worried that iKnow isn't going to be as good. It makes you do the same words over and over and over during a session and all. But I would like to add pictures to my flashcards so I'm likely to explore doing that. But right now I just want to try to get as caught up as possible on my cards. I haven't added new words in a while but I haven't tested English > Japanese at all on a ton of cards so those cards are new to me.
For some reason Dokusho isn't working so hot on my Nexus 4. It crashed on my Note 2 but when it didn't crash it worked fine. Basically if you rotate it, then it has to rethink or something and that tended to crash it on my Note 2 (for Harry Potter anyway, not for little short stories). The Nexus 4 is having issues in that it may not crash but if you press certain areas of the screen (certain words) nothing happens. Unless you reboot the phone. So that's annoying. I think perhaps multitasking pandora is affecting it.. but I like music..

I got my Nexus 7 in the mail. I had bought one a year ago.. didn't use it for 6 months.. and when I discovered Dokusho I decided I needed it again. And I didn't want to wait for the new version of the Nexus 7 because I'm not sure they'll be releasing a new one very soon. I think the tablet/phone market is actually maturing and the upgrades aren't going to be so big. So I didn't wait.
It just came today. I rooted it of course - I wouldn't want to study Japanese using Chinese glyphs. And I got the nice font online I mentioned to replace the Android Japanese fonts. Looks great. I am going to go play on it now.

I'm thinking about doing this log in Japanese going forward. Well in Japanese a lot of the time anyway. I'm just reading someone's German log and it's all in German pretty much and I'm a bit envious. The entries will take me a lot longer since I'm not too fluent in Japanese however.

Sounds like a good idea. :) You can also copy parts of it over to lang-8 if you feel
like having some corrections. :)
...trying to translate that into Japanese:

Hopefully you'll find it easier. :p

I'm gonna have to review my grammar. I'm getting rusty O.o. So aside from making grammar flashcards this weekend.. I was just trying adding photos to my flashcards. I initially brushed it off as too time consuming, but it's not. It does take more time but it's not too bad and just looking at the flashcards I am appreciating the difference quite a bit. They're far more engaging. I am wondering if this will really help me learn so that I don't run into the problem of forgetting words until I've studied them to death.
I'm even thinking of using pics for the grammar flashcards I'm gonna make. I don't know if that's really necessary but it probably wouldn't hurt.
yeah I'll post in Japanese. I got about 4 sentences into this post in Japanese and then just got fed up at being unable to recall grammar structures I hadn't reviewed in a while.
