I revamped the flashcard deck I made so that it tests me on Japanese reproduction. I
use pictures on side 1 with English and Japanese on side 2. I had a lot of fun with
it and got through several hundreds of cards. I probably won't keep that motivation
up but I'm pretty excited still. I think the pictures are going to be a really good
thing.

I did a hell if a lot of SRS reps today. I had a lot of reviews in my deck for English to Japanese and I decided
to add the old decks back in for reading kanji and listening to spoken audio. I think I did close to a thousand.
There's over 300 cards that are new now still too. It's vocabulary already in the deck but to test reading the
kanji. It's weird taking a break from reading kanji and going back to it. I still recognize it but I doubt myself so
much. This weekend I made a promise to make some progress on my presentation for the anime convention
for onomatopoeia. I sort of started last night and found an example from 攻撃の巨人. I'm sure I can find plenty
more and I just need to figure out how to edit the movie clips with my subs.

I'm deciding to make SRS my focus for studying right now. I finally added a ton of grammar cards to my
deck.. From my 102 Japanese class. All the example sentences from the study packet he gave us for the
semester. Obviously it's rather easy stuff now but some of it I haven't used in ages so the review is good and
necessary. I've long since come to the conclusion that I need SRS to keepe from forgetting stuff.. Well either
that or I need to start reading tons but I'm so slow at reading right now that I don't think it's nearly as effective.
The grammar review is already helping. I'm thinking in Japanese thanks to reviewing it. I'll be writing entries
here in Japanese after a bit more review. With SRS being my focus for the time being I can expect to do it
abou 2 hours a day I think. The pictures help make that a lot more bearable.

why not do both? SRS and reading? that's kind of what I am doing right now. however, my reading is currently mostly focused on subtitles. xD I think it really helps to reinforce what you studied if you actually see it being used in context.
I have never really used a grammar deck so I am wondering how you go about it. are you testing recognition or production?

I guess I don't have time for both if I'm going to be aggressive about the SRS vocab. Just making the cards is a pain - I'm adding audio and pictures. But it seems to be really worth it. I'm solidifying words that were shaky before and learning words faster than ever. I've only been doing it this way for a week though so I need to give it more time to see.
Regarding the grammar deck.. I'm using his handout he gave us. Basically it's example sentences of the Japanese grammar with English translations. I am testing it for production. It's review for me anyway so I would hope that I can passively understand it already. It uses really simple vocabulary to make sure it's only testing me on the grammar. I have English on side 1 and Japanese on side 2. The deck I'm making now is going to have a picture on side 1 too with the English. Google is awesome.

Working on the last packet from Japanese 202. OMG I can't wait for this to be done. I suppose doing the flashcards will be a pain too but making them.. ugh.
Can't wait to be done.

The grammar flashcards are really helping me to remember my Japanese and, again, I'm thinking in
Japanese more. Too bad I didn't make these cards when I did the course. They were truly a pain to make but
so worth it. I think I learn best with flashcards (if they have pictures and sound). I've gotten through a couple
hundred of the cards and have about 170 more to go I'm not sure. I haven't added any vocab I a few days
now thanks to the grammar which feels weird. I have several hundred cards due today and the same
tomorrow. I just looked at time studied and it was at 3 hours yesterday. The day before that was a lot more
even but I added a lot of new cards recently so I think 3 hours is going to be more normal. That's a lot. But I
break it up throughout the day and it's not too bad.
The summer anime season is looking better than I thought but nothing really amazing stands out for me.

Updating on my lunch break at work. It's my Friday so I'm looking forward to catching up on my reviews for
SRS. I'm at about 550 right now. The grammar cards are slowing me down a lot as it takes longer to conjure
an entire sentence in my head than just a word. I was thinking of separating them out to a different deck but
then I fear I'd never get to it and its really important for developing my speaking skills which I'm valuing more
and more. I also have the onomatopoeia project I need to make headway on this weekend. It takes longer
than I expected getting good examples from anime but it also helps my Japanese to look for it.
As I'm no longer taking a course I am thinking of working on Spanish again to use at work. I probably wouldn't
start it much until after the comic convention though if I do.
