It seems all I have to do is download a new deck on my computer and then getting everything to synch is craziness. My phone had to do a rebuild of the database before it would let me synch and now it's synching and I'm wondering if it lost all the reviews I did today. 心配している。それと遅い。メディアのせい だろう。

It didn't lose it. At least not much if it lost any. This deck is really amazing. Anki really lets you do a lot with the layout compared to my other app. The furigana this deck has is beautiful. And the author added in RTK meanings for the kanji too.. in a hidden field you have to activate is all. Just like I used to do on my vocab cards but stopped doing to save time and because I didn't need it as much. But since he went ahead and did the work I'm happy to activate that field XD. These cards are pretty sweet. Now I just need to figure out his extra 15k deck. If I could just add it to the base deck then I could activate words in books I read as I go and they'd all be included in the same reviews. Maybe I can review multiple decks at once? Anyway I am really enjoying anki. I'm hoping I don't get tempted by any more media hungry decks so I don't have synching headaches going forward.

A big thing I didn't like about my SRS deck verse the JFlash app was that the JFlash app was constantly mixing in vocab that I kind of knew but hadn't mastered. Anki isn't going to do that. But it has a feature where I can review something in 10 min so I can just press that button a lot if I want to I guess. |

You can also add several learning steps to new cards or cards that you have failed. It's in the deck options. For example, my steps for a new card are "5 30 80 210". Since I do the reviews all day long it's a great setup because I get to see all the new cards at least 3 times before they go to the "review" queue so I'm more likely to remember them.

Thanks for the tip I will take a look after work today. I'm pretty happy with the ten minute button though I'll
have to see what this other option does.
Right now I'm working through the core from the beginning. I need to be more aggressive I think about the
bury button (disable) I think. I'm worried about taking stuff out totally since there's kanji involved and I don't
want to forget it. I really would like a 30 day button on there. I think I'll play with it to add one. After I get
deeper I to the deck I won't need a button like that.
Anki seems really sweet. The only feature it's missing is the jukebox autoplay thing I could do with low streak
cards on my old app but that's not a big deal to me anymore since I can listen to music and actually pick out a
lot of words now.

Since you are picking up a ready made deck and working through it from scratch I would recommend being very aggressive with what you suspend/disable. Basically, for any new card, if you already know the answer, get rid of it. If you want to keep progressing, you need to work on things you don't know, rather than just constantly reviewing the stuff you do know. I reckon you probably already know at least half of the core deck already, you just don't trust yourself to remember it. Have confidence!

Darn. What's the best way to suspend cards so they don't come back unless I go I and activate them? I
thought it was suspend but the suspended cards from yesterday are back again... Do I have to delete them
permanently?

I don't think suspended cards should un-suspend themselves. Maybe the note type has two cards, like front-to-back and back-to-front, and you only suspended one of them? The default Anki behavior is that it doesn't show related cards on the same day but you can change it in the deck options.

In Anki?
You just suspend them and they don't come back until you un-suspend them.
Maybe you have duplicates or near duplicates?
You can browse and look for the specific card (something like front:"the card text")
and you should see if there is more than one.
