Finally finished off Naruto. 220 episodes. I've been looking forward to Naruto Shippuden for a while =). Felt left out every time I saw it but I wanted to see the episodes in order. It's anime so it's Japanese btw for non anime people reading this.

Lucky :)
Things get a lot more interesting now. The last 80 or so episodes of the original Naruto were pretty much all filler episodes. They finally get back to the main storyline in Shippuden.

How does your progress go of Remembering the Kanji? How many kanji do you learn from the book per day?

One of my big tools for studying are the flashcards via japanesepod101.com. I copied the vocabulary into my flashcard app on my ipod/ipad. I did the first 1000 (although I'm not 100% on them yet) and have been working on the 2000 set. They also include example sentences for the words. I am now making a flashcard set based off these example sentences. The sentences include kana/romaji/english sentences. I am making the set 3 sides so it has the kanji/romaji/english. I'm gonna put some effort into making a dent into the set. See how it goes. I don't think i do enough working with complete written sentences (except when I was trying to work on Potter which probably was really good for my Japanese). I haven't done Potter in a while so I should do at least a little this weekend. Past weekends I've been just watching anime. I'm finally getting a little bored of that so I hope to get more studying done this weekend.

I've been slacking. Still there's a little to update. Two reasons for slacking are bad sleeping habits and I've
been addicted to naruto shipoden. I'm about caught up on the series so that distraction will go away
thankfully. Lying in bed this morning I found that I can still do my flashcards while tired since there's audio for
each card and it's controlled by swiping I can just close my eyes. Extreme lazy studying I know but I can get
some in when I can't sleep or am really tired which is pretty often.
I made a ton of cards using all the sentences from japanesepod and they give up to 8 per word. I think it's
way to much. I made a set of close to 300 or so and I found I couldn't get into it at all. I'm going to stick to
straight vocab and I'll include simple example sentences only and one per word only too. Also I have a new
work schedule that lets me take a Japanese course at the community college. I'm currently doing semester
one Japanese distance course through university of Alabama and my local school uses the same book. I'm
looking forward to that. I haven't finished this course yet but my studying to date I think is still enough I could
just walk into the class and be ok. I do hope to learn more before the course starts though.
One thing I find amusing is that were I to take a Spanish course it would probably also be semester 2
Spanish. I never took it and could benefit from the grammar. My Spanish is loads better an my Japanese
though. But I think that's kind normal with Spanish compared to other languages. A lot of the students have
a lot of informal exposure to the language already, much more so than any other foreign language course you
might take in the states.
So for Japanese I'm going to work on pure vocab until I get the 2000 or so japanesepod words down. As the
course approaches if I haven't reached that goal I will probably switch to reviewing the course text book. But
I think I can get this vocab finished off in 4-6 weeks if I put some effort into it.

Just saw this post. I haven't been reviewing it. I think about it a lot but I really want to get the 2000 basic
words down right now that I haven't worked on kanji. If I can get more serious about studying then I'll do both
and in that case I'll update how many kanji I'm learning. The next time I
Ice it up I'll do a post regarding how far I've gotten.

Short update at work. I have taken a detour and signed up for German with Rosetta stone. I've do e a few
grip tutor sessions and it's a lot fun. It's nice to able to talk reasonably fluently. I have already spent years
studying German (although I haven't used it much in recent years.) I can use the ego boost. Japanese can
kick our butt. But I'm still doing Japanese. Currently it's mostly just listening to vocab lists while doing other
activities but my vocab is still improving because of it. Slow but steady. I'll get more serious soon. German
is fun at the moment. I'm finding myself thinking in German a lot without even wanting to. I wish my
Japanese were so good.

German is not a detour from Japanese.
German is the end of Japanese.
IF you want to learn Japanese, drop German. If not, then continue.
