I'm currently really into the Nodame Cantibile anime series. I was asking about what a こたつ (kotatsu) was and was told to watch this series. Well the live action version but I chose to watch the anime instead. This series is awesome though. It's been a while since I watched anime that was about middle school kids. I adore all the characters especially Nodame. She's totally charismatic and interesting and well crazy. I'm really curious to see what a live action interpretation of this series is going to be like.
Thanks to this anime being so addictive I've fallen pretty far behind on my studying. I still doing the RTK2 deck I made but it's going pretty slowly. I had hoped to zip through it but that's not happening. I am learning though. I'd probably do better if I spent 2 hours a day on it instead of just 30 minutes though.
I kinda wonder if I would be better off doing the sounds with a "regular" method. One that well teaches the kanji more in order of frequency. meh - I was such a big fan of RTK 1 though.
I was looking at the WhiteRabbit Flashcards. They're tempting. They wouldn't have any audio though - I add audio when I use my ipod/ipad app to all the cards so that would be a let down. I'll think about it some more.

I ordered the 1st set of flashcards from white rabbit. 400 basic kanji. It's what's on the JPLT 4/5. I think I'll be taking 4 in December - I am pretty sure the JLPT 3 would be beyond me at the rate I'm going and I don't see how I could step it up really with a full time job.

Listening to the French lyrics at the end of the Nodame. My French isn't so good but the word order - man it's so much easier on the brain. The complex sentences don't give you a headache at all, and you don't get lost. It would be nice to be studying French heh.
I spent about an hour on the RTK 2 deck I have tonight. I was a bit frustrated with it since I think I added too many kanji too fast. I took out the pure group for "2" kanji and it reviewed the others that had been buried for the past week. I knew most of them still and then I added maybe 40 from the 2 group. I'll just gradually add in more from the 2 group without overloading myself. Should be better.
My course starts up in 2 weeks. That really snuck up on me. I was thinking it was a month away or something. I thought school started in September. Two weeks. Then my freedom ends. One bad thing about making friends with people in the class is that I feel guilty about missing class. I'm probably not going to miss any classes =(. I'll be tired for a while.

Surely not missing class is a good thing? I'm quite jealous. No more Japanese classes here for me.
Personally I think you'll do a lot better with a more traditional method for learning the sounds of the kanji. The RTK2 method is a nice try at making order out of chaos but there are just too many variations, and you'll still have to learn the kun readings on your own anyway. Once I get back home on a proper computer I can recommend a few books. But then again I am totally bored with kanji now so perhaps my recommendations are not up to much ;-)
The live action Nodame was one of the first jdramas I ever watched. Combining two of my interests, Japanese and classical music, I really fell in love with it!

Watching Nodame (her character) always makes me laugh and puts me in a good mood instantly. I just love this anime. Can't wait for the jdrama which I'm watching next.. unfortunately... or fortunately.. the final part of the series (called "final") has no subs... at least this episode doesn't heh. We'll see how well I do.
I am open to trying other methods to learning the sounds than RTK 2. I do want to focus on the sounds for each kanji though - not just study vocabulary and sort of pickup the sounds as I go. I've been trying that well since I finished RTK 1 and it only seems to work for the kun readings (or words with one kanji in them). I'm gonna have to tackle the kanji sounds head on it seems =/. Or I could be super patient maybe and wait years for it to absorb.

I loved Nodame's character, too. So endearing. The Jdrama at first may look too cheesy,
but if you stick with it, you'll really enjoy it. That was my experience with it. At
first I thought, "Hmmmm" but almost instantly it gets better. And I agree, the anime is
just plain awesome.

heh did I say that I thought it was too cheesy a while back? I was told to watch it and started watching it but it was SO cheesy I had to stop. That and the quality of the stream was pretty bad too. After watching the anime though I'm more than willing to wait for it to get better. I'm really excited about it. I'm almost done with the anime - I'll finish the finale season tomorrow.

I didn't mind the cheesiness because I thought the characters were still pretty realistic compared to many music students I knew when I was younger. Musicians are a bit unique I think!
