I know Kotoba app for iOS is free, it now goes by the name "imiwa?", which I don't really
like, but it's a great app. And it also integrated pronunciation recently, so you can
click on the word and here it out loud, which is really cool. I don't think it has the
draw feature, though. But it's free and really good. I also use Midori, which is my
favorite, but it does cost money.

I got my grade for the Japanese course. An A. I was expecting it but
it's always good to get confirmation because you never know. I'm not
as confidant of the N4 results but it'll be a while before I get those. So
plenty of time to worry XD.

I'm hoping to better prepare for this coming semester than I did for
the last one. I was pretty good about getting the vocabulary but
otherwise I just read the grammar and had an ij understanding but
didn't really absorb it. That's what if like to do different thus time but
we'll see. I've said it before and I don't like studying grammar. I think
about grammar constantly and all but to sit down and just drill new
rules takes more discipline out if me than any other language thing I
can do. So I'm hoping the srs cards I made work well to overcome
that. I have most of chapter 4 done. They're setup as fill in the blank
to test the grammar. I took the example sentences from the book
and removed the part that they're teaching so that's my side one
along with the yookoso English translation which is generally a very
good one (as opposed to what you get with the free dictionaries
online). I'll post here how it goes.

Well done on your A grade!

I hate the delay for JLPT results. It feels like by the time you get the results, its not really relevant to where you are in your studies anyway.

I'm pretty lousy at studying grammar too. At least in a language like Japanese, there's not too much to worry about beyond things like particles. Compared to languages where there are genders, cases, many irregular verbs etc, it's not so bad. See, I'm trying to be positive :)

Yeah the A feels good XD thanks. I suppose it won't feel so relevant when I get the grade because I'll have moved up to another level in theory. And I'm sure I will. I've already learned more vocabulary and I'm getting a hold of a few new grammar structures.

I've pretty much gone through the vocabulary for Yookoso chap 4 already. Enough that I went ahead and added Chap 5 to my SRS deck. Vocabulary seems to be my strong point at the moment. The theme for chap 4 is pretty much body parts and not surprisingly I had a huge head start on that already. How can you study Japanese for over a year and not know a lot of that vocab. You can't. I also have the first 500 from the 1000 to 2000 vocab in iKnow in my deck just added recently. Again, a lot of reviews there but also some is new. And I added this 'slang' deck a user created on iKnow. A ton of new vocab in the slang deck. I hardly knew any of it. And probably a lot I'll never use it's mostly for hard core adult film addicts I think. But I felt ignorant not knowing it so I'm studying it regularly.

Regarding the grammar cards I made for Yookoso chap 4 - I've gone through them all and gotten a correct response 3 times in a row. So that's good. They'll be up for review soon and I'll need the review. But it's looking good.

Yeah right :P

How come my Japanese grammar dictionaries are 3 volumes with over 600 pages each and my Norwegian grammar book is only about 200 pages and covers everything you need to know?

Basically because what gets called grammar in Japanese is more like sentence patterns and expressions once you get passed the basic fundamentals. Plus I think those dictionaries are exceptionally detailed.

Just watching an anime となりの怪物くん (my little monster) and I heard the word 久しぶり and I heard the ひ at the beginning. Thank god. I didn't know there was a ひ at the beginning of that word for so long.. and then I did... and then I forgot lol. Guess I remembered.

Aww crap the top student by reputation in our class told me that
she's thinking of not doing the speech contest this year. That would
be a big let down. I'll have to get on her case go make sure that
doesn't happen. That said I need to start thinking about what I'm
going to so. Or I'll be wanting to do the same thing lol.

In terms of my studying I'm keeping up on my reviews pretty well. I
haven't added all of the new words for next semester yet. Mostly
professions but basic stuff you'd definitely want to know. I'm thinking
of getting zelda in Japanese for Nintendo DS because I heard that it
has furigana for all the kanji which is awesome. I don't know of any
other games that do that. I'd rather get something more current for
Android or ps3 or xbox bt I don't know of anything.

I've kept up with the grammar srs cards that I made which is
awesome. I need to make some for review for older grammar and
add more and what not. It's so important. And i hate grammar so
much.
