Is anyone aware of a tried and true Danish pronunciation guide somewhere on the Web? Wikipedia lists the phonemes corresponding to each letter and how those phonemes are realized in different environments, which is great, but the article doesn't give any rules for figuring out the correct phoneme when there are several possible alternatives.

For example:
e      /ə/, /e/, /ɛ/, /eː/ or /ɛː/
u      /u/, /uː/ or /o/
ø      /ø/, /œ/, /øː/ or /œː/

Good tips and book recommendations are also more than welcome.

I just noticed that the link to my log sends people to my old one. My current log is here.

Here are some of my favorite Swedish media resources:

Vakna med NRJ on Youtube -- video outtakes from the morning radio show, Vakna med NRJ; new clips every weekday
Nördigt -- an excellent podcast about games, comics, movies and TV series
C/o Hannah & Amanda -- a podcast where the sisters Hannah and Amanda, now in their 40s, talk about whatever happens to be going on in their lives

Some dramas I've enjoyed (with links to the corresponding Wikipedia articles):
Solsidan
Kronprinsessan (Kungamordet, Drottningoffret)
Äkta människor

I haven't watched that many Swedish movies, but it's worth mentioning that there are a number of Beck and Wallander films (illegally) on Youtube.

EDIT:
How could I have forgotten Radio1? It's a talk radio station based in Stockholm, with many Stockholmer hosts. All of their shows are available as podcasts, but if you prefer, you can listen to their live stream or check out older programs on Radio1 Play. Aschberg is a personal favorite of mine.

There's also SR's P1 with its many interesting programs and a patchwork of different dialects.

I finally got around to Viking Challenge #2!
I wasn't sure whether it goes here or on my own log so I put it on both.

SECOND VIKING CHALLENGE

Write 3 sentences where you try to use as many of the words which in English are spelled with capital letters, and
in Norwegian (and as far as I know also Swedish and Danish) are spelled with regular letters as possible.

Han er en riktig nordmann, men han snakker godt engelsk.
Neste fredag, vil det være den syttende mai.
Jeg liker ikke januar, er det for kaldt og ufyselig.

Quick update on my progress. I just finished the 30 units of Pimsleur yesterday (which, I believe, is in Nynorsk (!)
I'm not really sure why they chose Nynorsk over Bokmal ). On to Assimil!

I hate my Egyptian Internet connection with a vengeance. I could not understand why you posted this
uncorrected when I had already corrected this and and the other lines you wrote in your log, and then when I
looked at your log I realized that my post had not gotten through. I had lost three other posts here before I
figured out what the problem was, so at this point I am ready to sit in the position you had on your old picture
and say "Uuuhm" for about 40 minutes.

I cannot believe that the Pimsleur course is in Nynorsk. Why have you reached that conclusion?

1. Riktig in the sense you are using it would have been correct in Danish, but not in Norwegian.
2. Word order is wrong.

I am being very strict with you because you do so well. If you want a milder regime where I only correct things
that hinder understanding or is grammatically wrong, let me know. Otherwise, well done!

Hi folks,

Sadly I don't have the time to take part in the TAC, I've too many other things to do. Plus I don't want to keep a log.

BUT I will be learning to speak Norwegian at my own pace :)

I will also be learning to speak German in tandem.

If I may I'd like to become one of the "unofficial groupies" for team viking :)

I wish you all much success with your Scandinavian learning!!

Am I the only one who is seeing two boxes after 'fredag'? Anyway, the comma between 'fredag' and 'vil' seems wrong to me.
