Well, I've read about 1/5 of La Casa en Mango Street and have to look up lots of words, but that's how I learn them.
The chapters are short, so I go back through & read it out loud. I checked the grade level of the book ... it's only
4th grade, but recommended for older students. So many words that are so simple in your native language
(crooked, clumsy) aren't familiar in another, yet I can manage conversations without them. It's a good start,
though. After this book, however, I think I'll do Escalofrios, which is only a 3rd grade book. My elderly
grandmother picked up one of them from my table yesterday and asked where I bought my daughter's books. I
had to admit that they were mine!

Reading outside on a beautiful Spring morning is great, but my neglected garden calls to me. Time to put the book
down. All things in moderation... but what a start!

Hello everyone, and what a wonderful idea.Sign me up please, count me in.

LANGUAGE:Italian

CHALLENGE:Super Challenge

CURRENT LEVEL:A1 at the moment, although my speaking level at the minute is virtually non-existent.

COMMENTS:This has come at the perfect time,as i want to really kick on in my ability to understand Italian.I've around 5 books to read (including HP)and a few more film resources to keep me busy for a couple of months. How i'm going to read and watch 100 films in 20 months is anyones guess but i'm one of these people who likes challenges that seem unobtainable.

UPDATE

#film

I've watched a couple of dubbed series and 8 episodes of an Colombian telenovela. I have decided to try to watch everything without subtitles.

At this stage telenovelas seem to suit me better because I cannot follow too intricate plots. It was embarrassing to acknowledge that when they caught the guilty guy in "The Closer" I had no idea who he was and it also remained a mystery to me why he was so jealous to someone that he had to kill 7 persons..

Actually I'm amazed that I find the telenovela "Yo soy Betty, la fea" so entertaining. Of course I miss a lot, but still can follow the basic plot. Which is very basic, indeed :)

#books

I haven't read any books yet. At first I want to make sure I get the film watching routine going.

#films

1. Miss Undercover (Miss Congeniality) 02. May, 2012
2. Die Schwester der Koenigin (The Other Boleyn Girl) 02. May, 2012
Nice movie! Besides the DVD, I also have the book which I’ll be reading after I finish
the one I’m reading right now. I’m curious to see the differences between the book and
the film.

First Update

5/100 Films "Toute la vérité", Season 1 Vol 1 (10 episodes of 45 min each)

First 10 episodes of the series Toute la vérité a legal drama from Québec.
I need to rewatch these anyway as I just received Season 2 Vol 2 DVDs but it has been so long
that I have forgotten all the plot themes left hanging at the end of S2 Vol 1.
I will be 'warming up' by watching some TV series then moving on to a collection of 35 movies I have collected.

I didn't realise people were posting their results in this thread as well. I'm not sure if I'll I post my results in this thread, but I will mention I watched my first French film last night. I think it's actually a short series, but it lasted 90 minutes. It was on TV5 and called, "LA LOUVE: Les proies sont dans la ville". To watch the film I enabled French subtitles, and kept a dictionary handy. This isn't the easiest thing to do. When you check up the words you realise how many colloquial expressions, and swear words, you don't normally learn.

I realize that it may be hard to keep up with all the challenges, but this is the Super Challenge - 100 books/films B! max. I have already registred you in the Advanced Super Challenge thread which is for B2-C2. :-)

I had such a simple little idea, but people on this forum are so creative, that the whole thing became a maze.

Thanks, I think if I put some counters on my log, it will do, so I won't loose the track.
