Siegfried The Movie!

I took EMK's recommendation and put Siegfried on the top of my list. It's a three-volume bandes dessinée based on the Nibelungenlied, and it looks fantastic. I probably won't get to it until September, but wanted to share this early with any other graphic novel or fantasy fans in the challenge - the artists now have funding to turn the work into an animated feature:

Okay, this is what I got done in July.

Spanish

11. Monsters, Inc. SP audio, no subs, July 15, 2012

Book
3.   Un Mal Principio - Una Serie de Catastróficas Desdichas, finished July 4, 2012 (162 pages)
Writing
10-20. Assimil Using Spanish (Advanced) Lesson 10-22

Mar Adentro was the first (new-to-me) movie I watched completely in Spanish, with Spanish subs. My brain can't keep up completely by ear only, but with the subs I felt like I understood everything with no problems. It was a lot of mental work, but I would say it was a complete success. Excellent movie, too.

French
Movies
21. Spiral (S1 Eps 1-2), FR audio, EN subs, July 5, 2012
Writing
27-39 Assimil Using French (Advanced) Lesson 11-39

I've realized that I need to work more on my French before I can watch movies comfortably. If I watch with English subs, I find myself not even listening to the French. I am about a month away from finishing the Advanced Assimil Using French, and I will be moving to Teach Yourself Improve Your French and a Practice Makes Perfect Grammar book after that. I will also be reviewing/shadowing both Assimil books, along with doing other LR, so I expect my (Super Challenge) progress to slow down here, but hopefully I can work on listening skills and grammar for a bit and come back to the movie list.

I expect I will watch a few in the next month or two, but I will be working on other areas so that when I read and watch movies, I will get a lot more out of it. Maybe I will try French audio and French subs with a movie I'm familiar with, and see how that goes, since my reading is far stronger than my listening comprehension.

Italian
Movies
1. The Magdalene Sisters, IT audio, EN subs, July 2, 2012
2. Stargate SG1 (A Matter of Time), IT audio, EN subs, July 7, 2012, 44 min
--   Stargate SG1 (The Fifth Race), IT audio, EN subs, July 7, 2012, 44 min
3. Stargate SG1 (Touchstone), IT audio, EN subs, July 9, 2012, 44 min
-   Stargate SG1 (Thor's Chariot), IT audio, EN subs, July 9, 2012, 44 min
4.   Harry Potter e la Pietra Filosofale, IT audio, no subs, July 9, 2012, 150 min
5. Stargate SG1 (Tok'ra Pt 1 & 2), IT audio, EN subs, July 14, 2012, 88 min
6. Stargate SG1 (Point of View, One Hundred Days), IT audio, EN subs, July 14, 2012, 88 min
7. Stargate SG1 (Show and Tell), IT audio, EN subs, July 14, 2012, 44 min
-   Stargate SG1 (With the Serpent's Grasp Pt 1), IT audio, EN subs, July 14, 2012, 44 min
8. Harry Potter e la Pietra Filosofale (audiobook, Chapter 1), July 14, 2012, 34 min
Writing
5-13.   Assimil Italian with Ease Lesson 33-48

I am excited for Italian. It is my August 6WC language, and I find it much easier to understand spoken Italian. I am watching more movies now, and plan to finish Assimil Italian with Ease by the end of the 6WC. I am going to try some LR (Harry Potter probably). I love how easy it is to understand compared to French. :-)

German
Writing

5-8.   Assimil German with Ease Lesson 53-60

German, German, German. I need to find time for you. I miss you.

Bosnian/Croatian
Movies
5.   Sorry for Kung Fu, Croatian audio, Eng subs, July 6, 2012
6.   Zivot je Cudo, Croatian audio, Eng subs, July 14, 2012, 148 min
7.   Fine Mrtve Djevojke (Fine Dead Girls), Croatian audio, Eng subs, July 20, 2012

I'm not going to put movie reviews in here - there are some in my personal log, and I will add more once HTLAL eventually goes back up (or something else permament is decided). I didn't realize how much I'd gotten done this month. I am frustrated with my time management for the summer. (It is hard to be a work-at-home mom when the kids are home from school and get anything real accomplished. Four more weeks til school starts!) But when I lay it all out like this, I see that I'm still getting a lot done, even if it's not as much as I'd like.

I just uploaded L'Immoraliste (André Gide, 1902; 144 pages) to Sendspace; please
download it if you want a copy. I intend to read it next weekend, and it would be fun
to have someone to compare notes to. It looks like a quick read. There are also free
single-language copies available on Kindle.

Also, Le grand Meaulnes (Alain-Fournier, 1913; 246 pages) is set to expire this
week, so if this is on your to-do list download it now.

These are both copies from the parallel-text zip file that was posted here awhile ago;
I wish I knew who to give credit for these to. The files are simple word-documents.

I don't think I've formally stated here that I'm registering with Belarusian :-)
Currently reading The da Vinci Code in Portuguese and also reading/LR'ing a bit of everything. And watching a lot of football of course.

If you can't edit your justpaste.it list, look for justpaste.it/edit/ in your browser history - hopefully you'll find the appropriate note. Seems like they're moving away from computer ID-based editing to URL-based. If you make a new note, be sure to save the edit URL which is now explicitly given to you.
