UPDATE

Movies:
1. となりのトトロ
2. 魔女の宅急便(w/ sub)
3. 魔女の宅急便(w/o sub)

Books:
1-2. ハリー・ポッターとアズカバンの囚人

Writing:
1. 自己紹介 + 大挑戦

Yay! I finally finished reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Once again, Harry and his friends saved the day. Fortunately, they took so long about doing it, that this counts as two books. (Double yay!)

I'll add all this up later.

Working on listening comprehension:

1. Buffy contre les vampires, saison 1, épisode 1 (x 2)
2. Buffy contre les vampires, saison 1, épisode 2 (x 2)
3. Buffy contre les vampires, saison 1, épisode 3 (x 2)
4. Buffy contre les vampires, saison 1, épisode 4 (with lots of rewinding)

Conversation:

180 minutes with tutor (DELF prep)
150 minutes at a French gathering
60+ minutes on Skype
...plus several times all that at home

If we're counting half-hour units, that's 6 + 5 + 2 + a whole bunch. I think I'm going
to stop counting conversation. Not much point.

Reading:

Working on Vol, Vapeur, Vengeance on the Kindle but I still have a ways to go.

Congratulations! That is great, if you can read a HP in little over a week you are doing very well indeed!

I took a cue from some of you, and tried watching Game of Thrones in French. I
usually hate dubbing, but this really worked. It's actually quite easy to follow, and
since I'm just starting the series I don't have any preconceptions on how the characters
are supposed to sound.

What I really like is that the language used is not fancy - it is squarely in the B-1
framework. Sometimes the language in French movies is too casual & I can't catch what
they're saying even with subtitles to help me.

Although ... I've never tried a French movie using French subtitles. Maybe I'll do that
tonight.

Movies
...Ang Lee's 饮食男女/飲食男女 (yǐnshínánnǚ) which in English is "Eat, Drink, Man, Woman" (1x)
...LOTR - Fellowship of the Rings (2x)
...LOTR - The Two Towers (1x)

The reading is going very slowly since I haven't worked characters in a long time.

I have to finish my Harry Potter in Czech, finally...

As for now, watched:
- first free episodes of Столичани в Повече - I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
- Love.net
- They are waiting - one-reel movie

In spe:
- Столичани в Повече S01, E04 etc...
- Zift - this time it won't be a pure pleasure due to the subject matter. At least my friend has warned me against it.

UPDATE

Over the past couple of days, I finished my first book and watched a couple more movies. Das Wunder von Narnia (The Magician’s Nephew) was a good book to start with since the language in it is easy, at about 170 pages it wasn't too long, and I was already familiar with the story, which is more interesting than most written for pre-teens.

I really enjoyed the movie Der Amerikanische Freund (The American Friend), which was a sort of artsy thriller starring Bruno Ganz and Dennis Hopper. Every time I've ever seen Bruno Ganz in anything, I thought he did a really good job. The movie was directed by Wem Winders. There was a great deal of English spoken in this film besides a lot of German and a little French. However, since it was over two hours long and I watched around 40 minutes of deleted scenes and the original trailer too, I've decided to count it as a full film for German.

Beyond this, I watched The Sound of Music dubbed in German, which seemed appropriate since it’s set in Austria.

I've been reading a few other books too, but have got a ways to go on them still.

RUNNING TOTAL:

German (Half)

Books:
1. Die Chroniken von Narnia: Das Wunder von Narnia (The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew) – C.S. Lewis

Films:
1. Die Feuerzangenbowle (1944)
2. Nazi-Diplomatie Intern: Das Auswärtige Amt in der Ära Ribbentrop / Hitlers Helfer: Joseph Goebbels - Der Brandstifter
3. Herr Lehmann (2003)
4. Der Amerikanische Freund (1977) (+ trailer and deleted scenes)
5. The Sound of Music (dubbed in German)

Italian (Half)

Books:
Partial book

Films:
1. Correva l’anno: Processo di Norimberga - Joachim von Ribbentrop / Correva l'anno: La Seconda Guerra Mondiale - I medici del Reich

Spanish (Half)

Books:
Partial book

Films:
0

I had to look this one up, since that's my name. It turns out there's a book as well, and one reviewer said:

Quote:
Give it a go if you want to read German but prefer something neither dull nor heavy going.

Worth a look into!
