Hey it's a bit late but i wanna register!
LANGUAGE: Vietnamese
CHALLENGE: SUPER DUPER
CURRENT LEVEL: B1
COMMENTS: I think my basic conversational Vietnamese needs to be improved with richer vocabulary and more interesting phrases or mastery of the more complex sides of Vietnamese grammar. I think reading and listening like this will help expose me to new vocabulary in a clear context; this way I can pick up language chunks rather than individual words. I think the conversation piece of this is going to be easy but it's the reading which I see as the challenging part as I have to find time to sit down and reaaaaaaad.
By the way, I don't understand how to use the bot on twitter, is there anyone kind enough to give me a brief tutorial? Thanks! |

@langchallenge #film, #ko, 94 min,
and it gave me 90 minutes to Korean score.
All the instructions are at
http://www.languagechallenge.surrealix.com/
good luck with Vietnamese! |

For most of us, it's better not to put the number of minutes. If tweet what you just mentioned, it will give you the minutes, but won't credit you with a film (as it's not long enough by the bot's standards). |
|
|
Well, I don't know myself how to use it well...
hmm... so OK, anyway everything is on the instructions.
by the way, 94 min atually does count as a full movie
90 is the limit for one movie accoridng to instructions.
I will be posting updates in my log, instead of in the thread, beacuse I would have to post it in my log anyway.
anyway direct code to Vietnamese super challege registration:

UPDATE - Added French book 1
BOOKS (French)
1. Le Petit Prince
FILMS, ETC. (French)
1. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
FILMS, ETC. (Dutch)
1. Naar Het Middlepunt Der Aarde (audiobook)
2. Naar Het Middlepunt Der Aarde (audiobook)
3. Naar Het Middlepunt Der Aarde (audiobook)
4. Naar Het Middlepunt Der Aarde (audiobook)
Finished Le Petit Prince, marking my first ever French book (also first non-Germanic language book, FWIW). I'll have
to read it again later after I improve. It seemed pretty interesting, but there were big stretches where I'd get
confused as to what exactly was going on. Still working on various HP in Dutch, French, and German (to provide
context for reading the French).

Thanks for the direction.
So today i watched my first 2 movies of the challenge:
1. Underworld (latest) - Vietnamese subtitles
2. Johnny English - Vietnamese dubbed
I also had about 2 or 3 hours of conversation in Vietnamese with my girlfriend and her family (living in Vietnam the conversation part is going to be easy!)

LANGUAGE: Mandarin
CHALLENGE: 100 books, 100 movies (it seems an unreachable goal, though!)
CURRENT LEVEL: No idea, but not higher than B1 (more like A2 on a good day)
COMMENTS: As I wrote somewhere else, I probably have ~100 movies in my own collection (+at least four tv series without subtitles), but my "reading" won't be more advanced than the simplest children's books I can find at the library. And I'll have to read them over and over again to reach the magic number 100.
Current status: two children's books (with a lot of pictures), and three episodes of 醉拳张三.
I'm going to write more detailed updates in my Mandarin log.

Update Weeks 1 & 2
Films
1.La Piovra:Seasons 1,2&3- Excellent crime based drama on the Mafia underworld. (1053 minutes- oh gosh).Watched with ENG subtitles
2.RAI News broadcasts - Excellent resource for listening to Italian news, and also shows the regional Italian news which is good for getting an ear for the different regional accents when people are being interviewed.(85 minutes)
Books
1.I mille volti di Diabolik (The many faces of Diabolik)-Comic book based on the fictional jewellery thief Diabolik. It was 489 pages, but as it was in comic format,it was very hard for me to classify.(I'll put it down as 1 book)

prz-I find the news more helpful than the actual Tv series i've been watching, but haven't got the attention span to listen to the news for a prolonged period of time. You've done well if you've watched that much news in 2 weeks.I'd watch more if i could.
