If anyone wants to join me with Le grand Meaulnes, I uploaded the parallel text version to my Google Drive account. If I did it right you should be able to download it with that link, without signing in.   There are free e-book versions too; I'll be reading it on Kindle, and using the parallel text as a back-up when needed.

Here's what John Fowles wrote about the novel: "(It)belongs to, and is the finest example of, a category in fiction that has no name but exists. Unfortunately, the most accurate description would be the novel of adolescence--I say 'unfortunately' because in our time the adolescent has come to be regarded as either a deteriorated child or an insufficient adult, and to speak of a serious novel of adolescence seems almost a contradiction in terms. That, of course, is precisely what Alain-Fournier wrote--and not only a serious novel, but a very great one. It has haunted the European mind since it first appeared in 1913. It is the book one never quite forgets, a book like a secret garden, the kind of novel you recommend as a disguised test: 'If you don't like this, there must be something wrong with you.'

Anyone tempted?

I am, although I haven't actually jumped into reading French yet, so I don't know. I was going to start with Harry, but this sounds far more interesting. When I tried the link, it just sent me to the homepage and not to the file.

How irritating! I just put another copy on
SendSpace. This has more ads; ignore all
the big red buttons that say "Play Now" and stick with the link that says "Click here to
start download from sendspace."

Thanks, Kanewai. That one worked fine. And the audio is readily available as well. I may still attack Harry Potter first, simply because I'm more familiar with the material, but this will definitely go on my reading list. :D

@ Kanewai - You have almost talked me into making my umpteenth attempt at reading Mme. Bovary. Not quite there yet, but approaching :-)

Oh no.... Not Bovary again !

I am resolute in my denial but it was the set text for the numpties who took language instead of Science. So I kind of snuk in on the back furlong of their course because their French & Music teacher was cute. No, you misunderstand really really cute.

I was already in the Jazz class!

I have added all newbies I have seen to the LIST OF PARTICIPANTS

Welcome!

Could you all see if everything is correct? I may have overlooked someone, and some of you have changed languages, and I do not think I have cought that (and I am a tad hesitant to go through 50 pages to see :-) Could those of you who have changed languages or registred recently have a look?
