After a busy month, I did get some things accomplished. Although I don't count it as part of my listening, not a
day goes by that I don't listen to something in Spanish on youtube, be it a music video or a short interview. While
my general conversation/news comprehension is pretty good, slang and cursing still throw me. Not so much a
problem with most youtube presentations, but Pastorela, one of the movies I watched during the break, really got
me. As it was Christmas, I thought maybe a comedy about this Mexican tradition would be nice. Wrong! Gun
battles, a decapitation ... I just didn't get it. My second film, Que Pena Tu Boda, at least wasn't violent, but
drunken sexual misadventures aren't really my style either. Think I'm just past the age to find it too funny or
appealing.
My official reading of Malinche has stalled, although i do read snippets of People en Espanol most days. Think
I'm going to switch from Malinche, which has so many descriptions, to La Ciudad de las Bestias and see if that is
a bit better.
Peliculas: 16/50 (32%)
15. Pastorela
16. Que Pena tu Boda
Here's to a great start in the New Year. After 7 months, still continuing ...

At this point I am really happy that I have not had a policy of kicking out people who have been inactive for a while, otherwise I would have had to kick myself right out of my own challenge, and that would have been a pity. At least for me :-)
Since I have not read any books or seen any full films since my last update all I can register with are conversations. I have however had quite a lot of those, since I have had a lot of Russian classes, and I have insisted that most of them are conversation.

CONVERSATIONS
22-30 - November/December (Misc.)
My spoken Russian has improved. I still get a panic attack when I have to use it with strangers, but at least I can now use it with my teachers (I now have two different ones) without fainting, and with them actually understanding what I want to say.
Since speaking Russian is my number one goal, this is actually quite important to me. I have a new teacher who is very nice, and who uses different teaching methods. My old one I have had classes with on and off for quite some time, and it is nice to try a fresh face. I started to suspect that the old one understood me mostly because we have been through beginner's Russian so many times, that she knows every detail of my life and that of my children, so with a new person, at least I know that she understands what I say, and not just because she knows what I try to say by heart.

I love the descriptions of your conversations...especially #11 :D
Checked the list, could you please change my Portuguese to a full challenge? also please add me (and Kerrie) to the Croatian list :)
I'm glad you're not discouraged! As I've already said in the other SC thread, the most inspiring thing about this challenge right now is that I know perfectly well: if this had been suggested as a 12-month challenge, I'd be in anyway:D Maybe with somewhat modest goals...but heck, I've also done two audio challenges by now :D

Well done on your progress this year Cristina! It sounds like those Russian classes are really starting to pay off, but I had to laugh when I read the unenviable topic of conversation no. 14... :D

@Serpent: Done and done!
I am happy to hear that you like the descriptions - and yes # 11 was particularly enjoyable:-)
@teango: Yep, nr. 14 was a topic I could have written a novel about. Since one of the mods get super cranky whenever the topic is discussed, I refrained from doing so, but I vented all my frustration to my Russian teacher, who had quite a lot of interesting stories to contribute with herself.
I was by the way considering to merge the registration and update threads for the Super Challenge and the Advanced Super Challenge, and to make a new one for 2013. What do you guys think about that?
