Weekend Summary 27/06/08-29/06/08
- A slightly more productive weekend then most.
[Will be re-editing this a couple of times.]
French
Michel Thomas Advanced French CD3-14 to CD4-14 (~3.25 hours)
- Covered this material in three separate sessions, with the longest on Saturday, just short of two hours.
Spanish
Read A New Reference Grammar of Modern Spanish Grammar. (ad hoc sections) (~45 minutes)
- Mostly read about the perfect and pluperfect tenses, and when they're used.
Cultural.
Watched a couple of Spanish films this weekend,
Hable con Ella - Talk to her (Almodóvar)
- A good film by Pedro Almodóvar. I find the Spanish in his films very difficult. I'm not sure if it's the audio volume, or the regional accent.
Lucía y el sexo - Sex and Lucia (Medem)
- Watched this last night with mi novia. It's a very cinematic film, with an extremely interweaved plot. We both found the Spanish a lot easier to understand, and very clear.

Morning
Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 8-9) (~15 minutes)
- Read these very slowly. I'm finding Hungarian syllablification very tricky.

Evening
Michel Thomas Advanced French CD3-14 to CD4-16 (~1.5 hours)
- Did another slightly longer session again. I'm nearing the end of the course, and he's teaching the subjunctive. I think this is the best of his original courses, followed closely by the Spanish and German.
[EDIT]
Cultural
I watched Angel-a (Luc Besson), a quirky French film set in Paris about a supernatural love story. I picked up some of the dialogues, and laughed when they used,
"Les bons contes font les bons amis", which roughly translates as, "Good accounts make for good friends". This dicton (saying) turns up on the French Assimil course, and I thought I'd never hear it again.

Morning
Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 4-8) (~20 minutes)
- Reread the earlier lessons again. I really want to know this material backwards before moving on through the course. With the Spanish and French Assimil you can cover a unit in 30 minutes. I don't think this applies to the Hungarian course.

Lunch (~45 minutes)
Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Lessons 9-27 once) (28-30 twice)
- I haven't started Lesson 30, but I seem to understand a lot of the dialogue already. This implies each lesson doesn't introduce that much new vocabulary, or I've already learnt the words in a different context.

Evening
French
Michel Thomas Advanced French CD4-2 to CD4-15 (~1.25 hours)
- Did my standard length session, which didn't quite get as far as the last one.
Spanish
Read Assimil Spanish with Ease (Lessons 26-29, Completed 30, Started 31) (~30 minutes)
- I'll try and start getting through more Spanish Assimil. I just realised I won't get to listen at lunch, as it's a business lunch today. Grrr.

Morning
Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 5,9,10) (~15 minutes)
- I find I've to go to the dictionary at the back a lot, to make sure I've matched up the corresponding words in the translations. To state the very obvious, Hungarian is very different from French, Spanish, English and Russian.
Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 5-8) (~15 minutes)
- Ended up listening to 8 twice, which means really 4 times, as they play each lesson slow and then fast. I deleted the duplicate track.
