Evening
- Another evening where I didn't get to do as much study as hoped. I spent ages trying to locate some language stuff that I'd left in my folks place from a good while ago, but to no joy. It was mainly Russian language material, such as Teach Yourself Beginners Russian and Living Language - Russian.
Russian
LIYC Russian 1 (1-2 to 1-3) (~15 minutes)
- Just did this, as I didn't want to do a short MT session.
Spanish
Barrons Vocabulary (~1.5 hours)
- Perhaps it's the small compact size of this book that makes it so inviting. It seems I can cover a lot of vocabulary in a reasonable amont of time. This session covered the post office, print media, and letter writing among others. The words I can clearly remember today include portada (cover), reseƱa (review), agotado (out of print\sold out) y contra reembolso (Cash on Delivery).

Morning
Hungarian
Read Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 5) (~20 minutes)
- Covered the first half of unit 5, up to the exercises. This was simply reading from the start of the unit and not studying the various bits. It will probabaly take a number of reviews to master the material.
Listened to Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 2-5) (~20 minutes)
- Made a slight mistake, and started a track earlier than planned. It didn't make a huge difference as I still covered the first dialogue on unit 5.

Lunch (~45 minutes)
Hungarian
Listened to FSI Basic Hungarian 1 (Units 2-1 x 2.5)
- Finally moved onto unit 2. I printed out the dialogue, so I could study it while walking. I'll probably read it a couple of times until I passively recognise all the vocabulary. At this point, I'll still give repeat listens so I overlearn the material.

Evening
Spanish
- Finally, I managed a proper study session, which was actually longer than I thought I would get.
Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Unit 20) (~1 hour)
- Did a couple more exercises from this unit, and it's getting a little tricky in the "como se usa" section. The previous section "como se construye" was quite hard as well. One exercise involved changing sentences, without changing the meaning, replacing cuando with al+infinitive, en cuanto or mientras. I mixed up mientras and the al+infinitive on one.
Listened to Teach Yourself Spanish (Unit 7-18) (~1.25 hours)
- I forgot where I was exactly in the listening sessions, as it's been a while since I last used this course. Managed to get to the very start of 18. I was listening ahead to where I studied. It provided a useful listening exercise.
Teach Yourself Spanish (Completed Written 16, Listening 16, Started 17) (~1 hour)
- Managed to complete both the written and audio exercises on 16. The audio exercise was a lot of dates, which I thankfully managed to get right.
Barrons Vocabulary (~2 hours)
- A long session with Barrons, and late into the night. Some of the lists were a bit boring, such as audio visual equipment. E.g. videocamera digital, videocasetera, pila de litio (lithium battery), reproductor MP3. However, the list with emotions, moods and feelings was good. I didn't realise decepcionar meant "to disappoint"; which is a bit of a falso amigo.

Morning
Hungarian
Read Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 5, Unit 6) (~20 minutes)
- Completed reading the rest of Unit 5, and did one of the exercises. I just scanned the very very start of Unit 6. I might do another couple of exercises again on unit 5. I think the last time I did this course, I started Unit 6, but didn't complete it.
Listened to Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 3-6) (~20 minutes)
- Did the proper listening session. I'll probably stick with this selection for a while.

- Read a good bit more of this unit while walking along. I should've been more careful as I almost collided with a couple of people in town. I like the fact they give the infinitive, then the conjugated verb in the dialogue, and also on the recordings. I wish they had a similar Russian course with audio.

Weekend Summary 10/10/08 - 12/10/08
- Didn't have a good weekend for study, with the arrival of various visitors (girlfriends parents), and the necessary socialising that entails. However, I still squeezed in the following,
Spanish
Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Completed Unit 20, Started 21) (~1.5 hours)
- I stumbled on another cuando\mientras mix up on Unit 20.
Barrons Vocabulary (~30 minutes)
- Went back and reviewed an older list. I know modern flashcard software uses spaced repetition, but I prefer the simpler method of skipping back a number of pages in a book. As I work in front of a PC all day, I don't like the idea of studying at one afterwards.
Russian
Michel Thomas Advanced Russian CD4-9 to CD4-12 (~35 minutes)
- I'm just a few more sessions from finishing with this course. I'll probably give the entire course a quick review, when Hodder publish the Russian Vocabulary course next year.
LIYC Russian 1 (1-2 to 1-6) (~40 minutes)
- Compared to the MT course I'd finished earlier in the same session, the speech is very slow on this course.

Morning
Hungarian
Read Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 6) (~20 minutes)
- Did the first half of unit 6. It took a while to decipher the dialogue as it featured a number of new structures. I think I need to review the earlier material again, to make sure I really know it all.
Listened to Teach Yourself Hungarian (Unit 3-6) (~20 minutes)
- Just about covered the first dialogue on Unit 6.
