Morning

Hungarian

Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (15,16,17) (~20 minutes)
- I decided to change the order I read within lessons. Normally I read the footnotes as soon as they appear, but this time I read them after the entire dialogue.

Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 13-18) (~20 minutes)
- The audio problem on 17 and 18 isn't just volume. It's the speakers taling at totally different volumes to each other. Getting very tempted to switch courses, or interweave this and another course.

Lunch / Afternoon

Spanish

Nivil Inicial 2008- Prueba 4 (~45 minutes)
- This is the exam that was set in August by the Cervantes Institute. The paper I was looking at was here. The answers are here. I just did the grammar exercises, Prueba 4, and was very happy with my result, about 95%. I'd a very quick look at the other paper here and it's a lot tricker.

French

Listened to Assimil New French with Ease (Units 12-37) (~45 minutes)
- Moved on a track even though I haven't finished 36, so it's slightly varied on my lunch walk. It seems I haven't done any active French study in a while.

Weekend Summary 12/09/08 - 14/09/08
- A lot of Spanish again this weekend, and some Russian.

Spanish

Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Completed 12, Started Unit 13) (~1.5 hours)
- Managed to complete Unit 12, and also did a few exercises on Unit 13. This unit covers the imperfecto.

Teach Yourself Spanish (Unit 15) (~1 hour)
- Did a few more written exercises on Unit 15, with a few more still to go.

Listened to Teach Yourself Spanish (Units 1-12) (~1.5 hours)
- Skipped the introduction, and listened to all of CD1 and the start of CD2.

Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Active Wave 15, ReRead Units 56,57, 58 Completed 59, 60 Started 61) (~2 hours)
- The Active Wave for 15 was very quick due to my over listening strategy. Ploughed on to complete a number of new units.

Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (33-61) (~1.25 hours)
- I'll try and move on a few tracks in the selection each new session.

Hola Magazine (~30 minutes)
- Read another article with occasional dictionary usage.

Russian

Michel Thomas Advanced Russian CD4-1 to CD4-11 (~ 1.33 hours)
- Just got to the start of track 11, which is about 9 minutes long. It looks like I'm close to completing ths course, but I'll stick to the single track method until the very end.

[EDIT - 16/08/09 - Corrected some grammar mistakes. God I was tired yesterday, and also the listening time on TY Spanish]

Morning

Hungarian

Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (13,15,16) (~20 minutes)
- Did the same as the previous Hungarian session, covering the dialogues first than the footnotes.

Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 13-18) (~20 minutes)
- Tried turning the volume to max, but it makes one speaker on the recordings unbearably loud.

Lunch (~45 minutes)

Russian

LIYC Russian Level 1 (Units 1 - 7)
- I still haven't moved on a unit just yet. A lot of sounds in Russian are similar to Irish, probably due to velarisation. Both languages seem to share common phonemes, with Russian having a lot more consonant clusters.

Evening
- Not as productive an evening as hoped. I realised today that I was exhausted yesterday.

Spanish

Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Unit 13) (~1 hour)
- Did a couple more exercises on this unit. The section "Como se usa" is quite tricky, and one exercise converting verbs to the preterito or imperfecto, as required, took 40 minutes. The course material is designed with the DELE exams in mind.

Teach Yourself Spanish (Unit 15) (~40 minutes)
- Did another couple of exercises but I was making stupid mistakes, so I stopped.

Listened to Teach Yourself Spanish (Units 2-11) (~1.25 hours)
- When I did my normal evening walk, I realised I'd underestimated the length of my weekend walk by a bit.

Barrons Vocabulary (~1 hour)
- As I wasn't making good progress on the written material, I switched to reading through this book. Not actively learning the words, but rereading each a couple of times.

Watched Spanish EuroNews (~2 hours, not including in TAC)
- Watched the Spanish version of Euronews, occasionally checking the dictionary for words I heard. Thanks to Assimil, I picked up a lot more than I expected. Euronews is not a good news station, but a great tool for language learners. They repeat, verbatim, the same news stories on the hour. If you're really stuck, you can switch to the English version of the exact same news story.

Morning

Hungarian

Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (17, 18) (~20 minutes)
- Did 17 very slowly, completed the exercises, and just started 18.

Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 13-18) (~20 minutes)
- On this sessions I hear 17 twice, and 18 once. I might skip ahead tomorrow, and hear 18 twice.

Lunch \ Afternoon

Hungarian

Read FSI Basic Hungarian 1 (p1-17) (~15 minutes)
- Decided to return to this course for some of my lunch breaks. The last time I visited this course, I completed Unit 1, and was part of the way into Unit 2.

Listened to FSI Basic Hungarian 1 (Units 1-1,1-2) (~30 minutes)
- Didn't get to hear all of tape 2 as I bumped into a guy from work. Each tape is quite long, so I may even include it on some evening sessions. I like the course, and the quality of the recordings is very good considering when they were recorded.
- I suppose I should classify it as passive learning, even though it encourages you to speak during the drills.
