Evening
Spanish
Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Unit 13) (~45 minutes)
- Just did another couple of exercises from this unit. I didn't realise that the imperfecto was used to make a request more courteous. E.g "Qué quería", "Qué deseaba". I think I'd been reading "quería" incorrectly as "querría", the conditional tense.
Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Active Wave 16, Reread Units 57,58,59,60 Completed 61 Started 62) (~1.25 hours)
- I'm completing the new units slower, and rereading them a couple of times, so I don't miss any hidden grammar points. As was mentioned on the forum, Assimil tend to bury important points within a single sentence, without even a footnote.
Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (36-65) (~1.25 hours)
- I didn't expect to cover this many new units, but it provided good listening practice.
[EDIT - I think I'm overtired, as I keep re-editing this to correct stupid typo's, or I'm losing my native language!!!]

Morning
Hungarian
Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Unit 18) (~20 minutes)
- Spent the whole 20 minutes going over lesson 18, constantly having to check the dictionary to make sure I wasn't misunderstanding a word.
Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 15-18) (~15 minutes)
- Skipped on a track, heard 18 twice, and still had time left over. The quiet woman is ruining the last two tracks. It's almost like she's murmuring.
Listened to Teach Yourself Hungarian (Introduction) (~5 minutes)
- Just listened to the first half of the introduction covering pronunciation. I might return to this course, which I started a long time ago, and stopped when I moved onto Italian(?). That was about three years ago, I think.

Lunch \ Afternoon
Hungarian
Read FSI Basic Hungarian 1 (p10-20) (~15 minutes)
- I went through these 10 pages very slowly, in small fragments through the day.
Listened to FSI Basic Hungarian 1 (Units 1-1,1-2) (~45 minutes)
- I printed out pages 8 and 9, as they contained a list of words for pronunciation practice, and glanced them during my walk. Between this and the substitution drills, I'm tempted to classify this as active study. I'll leave it as passive for the moment.

Evening
- I didn't get as much Russian done as I'd hoped, but still managed to squeeze in a bit of Spanish.
Spanish
Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Finished Unit 13, Barely Started 14) (~1 hour)
- Finally managed to complete this unit, before scratching the surface of Unit 14. Unit 14 has pages of explanations about the preterito perfecto, before the exercises start. As the grammar explanations are entirely in Spanish, I'm slightly concerned I mightn't be translating everything correctly.
Teach Yourself Spanish (Unit 15) (~45 minutes)
- Just did another couple of exercises from this unit. Unlike Assimil, each exercise requires a lot more writing, and can be a bit tedious. I might start skipping some exercises, as I don't feel they're really teaching me anything, and I'm definitely skipping those without answers .
Barrons Vocabulary (~1.5 hour)
- Just read through a couple of vocabulary lists.
Russian
Michel Thomas Advanced Russian CD4-2 to CD4-3 (~15 minutes)
- This session was unfortunately cut short, due to pressing government matters. I suppose language lovers have to pay tax as well.

Morning
Hungarian
Read Teach Yourself Hungarian (Introduction, Unit 1) (~20 minutes)
- I've decided to switch to the Teach Yourself course for the morning sessions. Assimil is good, but I felt I was reaching an impasse. Managed to cover the first half of unit 1.
Listened to Teach Yourself Hungarian (Introduction, Unit 1) (~20 minutes)
- I think the audio quality of Assimil was was main reason for switching. I'll stick to this course for a while, and might return to Assimil at a later date.

Hi, I haven't logged in here for a while, because I took a break from language learning and focused exclusively on translation.
I typed Hungarian in the search box and found this journal. I want to learn the language to fluency and I know next to nothing of it. There are quite a lot of speakers in Romania and I want to be able to communicate with them too.
Do you have any beginner's tips, Daragh?

Hi Silentlearner,
I'm also a beginner as well, but I'd strongly recommend the free FSI Hungarian Course, available here..
