- As I've already posted some statistics, here's the updated totals.

French
Active Study - 5650 minutes = 94.16 hours.
Passive Study - 2635 minutes = 43.91 hours
Total: 138.08 hours

Spanish
Active Study - 6570 minutes = 109.5 hours
Passive Study - 2255 minutes = 37.58 hours
Total: 147.08 hours

Russian
Active Study - 2325 minutes = 38.75 hours
Passive Study - 90 minutes = 1.5 hours
Total: 40.25 hours

Hungarian
Active Study - 905 minutes = 15.08 hours
Passive Study - 915 minutes = 15.25 hours
Total: 30.33 hours

Overall
Pure Study = 257.5 hours
Passive Study = 98.41 hours

Total = 355.91 hours

[EDIT - I redid the totals as it seemed too high. When I checked the figures again, I'd actually underestimated the Spanish.]

08/09/08 (Evening) - 09/09/08 (Day)

- As some family matters came up, I didn't go to work yesterday or get to do the log . The following summarises what I did on Monday evening, and all day Tuesday.

Spanish

Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Active Wave 14, ReRead Units 53-57, Completed 58, Started 59) (~2 hours)
- The Active wave was the revision unit, and featured some brand new translations to complete. This required a bit more thinking, but wasn't too difficult. I also managed to move onto some newer units, at last.

Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (30-60) (~1.25 hours)
- Did this listening session on Monday evening, after completing the above revision.

Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Completed Unit 11) (~2.75 hours)
- Completed this very long unit about prepositions on Tuesday.

Berlitz Vocabulary Study Cards (~1 hour)
- Bought these vocabulary cards with about a 1000 cards in total. I tried going from the English to the Spanish, and only putting them in the done pile, if I got the Spanish spelling exact. This was also on Tuesday.

Morning

Hungarian

Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (15,16,17) (~20 minutes)
- Just covered the first half of lesson 17.

Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 13-18) (~20 minutes)
- Skipped ahead a track, and listened to 17 twice. There are four speakers on the course, three of whom, speak at a normal volume. Unfortunately, the girl on lesson 17 practically whispers her part, while the other speakers retain their normal speech.

Evening

Spanish

Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Started Unit 12) (~1.5 hours)
- Got a good way into this long unit. I'm starting to thinking all the units are getting even longer. This unit covers more irregular verbs in the pretérito, and more rules governing the use of the imperfecto and the pretérito. The exercise where you had to pick between the two was very tricky. I managed to pick the pretérito over the imperfecto correctly for, "te llamó varias veces", but stumbled on one or two others.

Teach Yourself Spanish (Completed Units 13, 14, Started 15) (~2 hours)
- Completed the audio compenent of 13, the written and audio parts of 14, and most of the audio part of 15. I decided to use the book in the traditional manner, and do the dialogues as you're meant to. Unit 15 has a number of written exercises, so this should keep me occupied for a while. It's the first look at the preterite tense, so matches closely my other grammar study.

Hola Magazine (~30 minutes)
- Started into the second article about Julio Iglesias' birthday. I didn't realise benjamin can be used in Spanish for "youngest child", so it has been a useful learning exercise.

Russian

Michel Thomas Advanced Russian CD3-14 to CD4-9 (~ 1.25 hours)
- I like this course, and it's cramming in more towards the end. If I do this course any slower, I'll probably be doing it when the Vocabulary course is published.

Morning

Hungarian

Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (17,16) (~20 minutes)
- Did lesson 17 slowly, and also the first couple of exercises, before moving backwards to lesson 16. Hungarian is happening very slowly, which I that suppose should be expected. It also accounts for the least of my study time at 8.3%. If I increase the Hungarian, another language will suffer. Decisions, decisions.

Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 13-18) (~20 minutes)
- The audio for 17 and 18 is very poor, and this is affecting my motivation and my learning. I'll repeat the current selection for a number of mornings, and see if that helps. If not, I may switch to another Hungarian course.

Lunch (~45 minutes)

Russian

LIYC Russian Level 1 (Units 1 - 7)
- Still on the same selection. I'll probably move ahead along shortly.

Evening

- Having to attend a sombre family occasion straight after work, I didn't get any language study done. By the time I returned late last night, I knew my mind wouldn't have focused. I suppose this it what makes a longer running challenge a challenge. Life is unpredictable at the best of times.
