Evening Spanish Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Active Wave 11, Completed 57, Started 58, Sentence 2 Units 26-57) (~1.25 hours) - Didn't end up re-reading any units. I might cover the current selection more thoroughly, as I feel I'm missing a couple of the more idiomatics constructions. Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (26-57) (~1.25 hours) - Related to the point above, I can understand the sentences as I hear them, but not necessarily break them into their smallest constituent parts. Maybe this is part of the Assimil process, but I don't feel I could instantly construct similar sentences using the same structures. Morning Hungarian Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 16, 15, 14) (~20 minutes) - Did the lessons in reverse so I was freshest on the newest lesson. Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 12-17) (~15 minutes) - Still need to cover 16 in some detail. Russian Read LIYC Russian Level 1 (p1-16) (~30 minutes) - Managed to do this between a coffee break and a phonecall. Lunch (~45 minutes) Russian LIYC Russian Level 1 (Units 1 - 6) - Switching to Russian for some lunch breaks. This material covers the very basics of the language, so I know about 85% already. The slow pronunciation is useful in clearly identifying the gender endings of the adjectives, and the use of the pronoun 'v', which often devoices into an f sound. - My Russian is still at the very beginner stages, even though I've been doing it on and off over the last couple of years. Part of the problem lies with halting my Russian, so I can dive into the languages of countries I'm about to visit. Keeping this log should allow me to balance my time more efficiently, and not having to retread the same familiar ground. [To be edited] Spanish Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Unit 9) (~1 hour) - Did a few exercises on Unit 9. This is quite a tough unit as it covers the use of "se", in direct object, indirect object, impersonal and reciprocal constructions. Each of these constructions, I know individually, and most grammar books test just the one aspect. This unit blends them in a complex manner. [EDIT - I hadn't completed the Unit at this point] Russian Michel Thomas Advanced Russian CD3-11 to CD4-6 (~1.25 hours) - Skipped on a lesson, and still finished on 6. Morning Hungarian Read Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 12,16) (~20 minutes) - Went through 16 very slowly. Annoyingly a lot of vocabulary is missing for this unit from the dictionary at the back. Listened to Assimil Hungarian with Ease (Units 12-17) (~20 minutes) - It was raining on my way in. I also realised I don't always get to work in 15 minutes, it's often nearer 25, so my timings could all be way off. It explains why I heard 17 twice. Evening - A very long day of Spanish between the evening and lunchtime sessions. Spanish Assimil Spanish with Ease - (Active Wave 12, ReRead Units 27-34, 40-45) (~1.25 hours) - Didn't cover any new units, or use the sentence method, but covered two separate large chunks, with varying degrees of intensity. The Active wave was made easier by the earlier lunchtime listening session. Listened to Assimil Spanish with Ease - (27-59) (~1.33 hours) - I'd an extra 5 minutes over the normal. Gramatica B1 Intermedio (Anaya\ELE) (Completed Unit 9) (~1 hour) - Finished off the rest of the exercises in this unit. Teach Yourself Spanish (Partially Completed Units 9, 10, 11) (~2 hours) - I haven't used this material in a good while, as I didn't like the way the audio and material were put together. My main problem was all the listening components for a unit we're on a single track. This makes it awkward when the exercises jump between written and audio material, and you don't complete a unit in a single sitting. - I decided to do these units by skipping the audio part, and just reading the dialogues. I probably redo the listening components in a separate session. - When I covered the units, I couldn't help think of Prof. Arguelles description about the phasebook approach. I hope my long study session the previous evening, didn't disrupt the morning session.
