I published the above poem on my blog, and also added another poem I wrote (in
Swedish). That's been the bulk of my writing in other languages. Speaking has mostly concerning Russian this week and Chinese (obviously). Speaking of China, I will be going to China in February and stay there for almost six months. This is going to be bloody awesome and I will love it. I hope to be able to visit one or two countries extra during that time (which ones remain to be seen) but we will see how that all works out later. So yes, Mandarin is seriously going to be important for me in the latter part of 2014 and throughout 2015. Other than that, I am working slowly and steadily on improving my Russian, and this seems to be working. Furthermore I have been reading lots of German lately, which is really good - not that I find German hard to read or anything but I have little contact with it which makes it good to return to it every once in a while. Once that is done I will return to reading other things - I still have Swedish, Russian and Romanian stuff to finish so I should be fine. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Success on the road today - during work I was walking by a house and heard a woman
speaking a foreign language to her children (I wasn't paying attention to what exactly) but it sounded like Russian so I checked my letters and the name on it was Russian. She asked if she could take my letters (and I heard the accent) so I simply answered in Russian. She proceeded to ask me "Have you been here long?" It took a bit of convincing to get her to understand that yes, I am Dutch...she kept
asking if I really wasn't Dutch and if my parents were actually Dutch... apparently the news that your friendly neighbourhood postman ALSO speaks fluent Russian is a bit hard to process. Or well, what passes for fluent Russian round these parts. But I think I can get away with saying that nowadays.
