WATCHING YOUR PAINTINGS?

I saw directly on You Tube that you were producing videos showing your paintings. I partly watched two videos about this topic but then found it overwhelming. I found it very interesting to see those paleontological creatures on your paintings, but I didn't have the motivation to watch masses of videos on this art topic because I am more into languages and natural sciences now than that I am occupied with any art at all. In the past it was different, when I had a "museum-friend" and I could visit art and other museums together with her and discuss all kinds of museum objects. I couldn't keep up with these museum visits in other cities when I became unemployed and and also with my visually handicapped friends I can't share any interest in art. So for the last 8 years I didn't do anything with art anymore.

So this was my experience with two of your paintings videos.

I watched as much of the videos as I was able with my internet signal disappearing all the time and making me have to reload them which got too annoying. Maybe I can try again when/if the landlord fixes the signal. I probably missed a good bit, but it seemed to me that everything was repeated. You said it first in Danish, for example, and then in English. I was having fun deciphering the Danish, but then when you said the same thing in English, it seemed a little tedious. Maybe you should have subtitles in English and give the talk in your usual conglomeration of languages rather than repeating. That might be a bit too technically difficult though. But it would keep the interest of those who get bored when they can't understand and also those that get bored because they do understand and get tired of everything being repeated.

Anyway, I was able to go back through your log and see some of the pictures there as well and I thought they were fantastic. It was too bad about the building where you used to paint. It sounds like a wonderful idea, although I would probably be too embarrassed to paint anything where other people could see. I know what you mean about the one-bedroom apartment too. I have the same problem. I suppose acrylics might be ok, but I really don't have the space either. Someday, I will buy my own place and I will make sure it has at least two bedrooms. (And a bathtub, but that's another matter.)

Being interested in languages doesn't imply that you also are interested in art, but people who primarily are interested in arts won't be following my Youtube channel, and the net result is that they don't know about the videos and then it is a waste of time to make them.

I haven't experimented with subtitles in English, but that could have been a solution. However it would mean that I should make the videos again AND write subtitles. I don't have a personal homepage or blog, but if I really wanted to present those paintings again it might be more logical to do so on a blog with static pictures and explanations in writing. But right now I have just accepted that those paintings won't ever be seen by anybody apart from myself and (in some cases) my family, and when the last one of us dies (or maybe before) they will be sent to destruction at the local rubbish elimination facility, together with by old furniture, my musical compositions and tapes and all my books and magazines in weird languages.

Any person's knowledge of languages and other things, including travel experiences, will die with that person. And with a few partly random exceptions the things we write and record will also die with us. That's just how things are, and it is a waste of time trying to fight it.

That's a typical statement of a person who (as me too) doesn't have an own family with children who can inherit all these treasures of work and passion. If I think of my collected language dictionaries, textbooks and workbooks, my collection of songtexts with guitar chords, all my files with studied material, they will after my death be inherited and maybe valued by the children of my brother's and sister's families, but that's not so likely as my interests are quite special and not so mainstream.

In my opinon it would be a good idea to present some of your paintings with explanations in writing on a blogwebsite and it's true that on a language forum you can't assume that the majority of readers is deeply interested and involved in art / paintings (or astronomy or guitar playing or cooking in my case).

Or perhaps they will sell them for tons of money and you will become one of those poor starving artists who is successful only after his own death.

The idea of static pictures with explanations would probably work better. I enjoyed looking through the ones earlier in this log and reading about how you came up with the ideas.

I have watched some of your paintings videos, mostly those in which I have a linguistic
background and can thus understand (part of) the content, f.e. the one about Mariken I
watched, and I think the ones in French too, but I am not quite sure. I have forgotten
most of my Latin so I didn't watch it beyond the first two minutes or so.

I think you are a little pessimistic about your "legacy" Iversen.

Apart from anything else, although none of us knows how long the internet/www will last in its present form, a lot of information has already been around for a long time, and will probably be around for a lot longer, e.g. your log and youtube videos.

I'm sure some of the more tangible things could also find appreciative homes as well.

They always say to be careful about what you put on the internet because it will be there forever. So one can always hope that language-learning videos and logs will have a lifespan at least as long as that of nude photos.

I feel a bit the same way as you and Fasulye. I have no children, so when I die, I will simply disappear. Even my nephews and nieces who are all 30+ have only a few children between them, and I don't think any of them would have any interested in my stuff. My father was one of 11 children, but with every successive generation we seem to be less and less interested in reproduction.
