This is a somewhat newer picture, but still more than 30 years old. The ailing and dejected poet Aloysius Bertrand (who died from tuberculosis around the age of 40) wrote a collection of prose poems called Gaspard de la Nuit, which later gave Maurice Ravel the impetus to write a piano suite in three movements, which I have of course included in the picture. Ondine is the blue water nymph to the upper left, the little nasty fellah in the middle is Scarbo, and I have painted the gallows in symbolic form to the left, i.e. by hanging a grotesquely verbose version of my signature on the bars there (I have lots of proper gallows and wheels and things in other pictures if you need them).

-----------

Only Fasulye has commented on the way I have transformed my log into a private art gallery, so I don't know whether the readers like it or not. It is not really important for me to show anybody these paintings because I know that I'll never become a famous painter, and showing them here won't change that. However I personally benefit greatly from dealing with these old dusty paintings again because they make me recall a time long forgone where I still read literature - in fact I had to because of my studies. Now I have got the internet, and I can find scientific and historical texts there about just about every language I fancy, so reading literature has become a very minor activity for me

In the new Norwegian thread Noregi has written his contributions in 'Høgmål', the original version of Aasen's New Norwegian (incidentally the expression 'High Norwegian' reminds me about Tolkien's 'High Elvish' Quenya). I tried just for fun to write my answer in New Norwegian, so I had to find some New Norwegian to look at while writing. I then found a Wiki about Astrophysics, written by a school class somewhere in Norway. The articles represent different kinds of Norwegian, but I have printed those thas looked most like New Norwegian out, and now I have started to copy them by hand in order to absorb the spellings and other things that are specific for this kind of Norwegian. Which clearly is the one I prefer, because normal Bokmål to me just look like Danish with a few aberrant spellings. Reading bokmål is like drinking destilled water.

There isn't much to say about the one and only painting this evening, because I didn't note down the name of the author when I painted it so now I can't find the original poem. The title is* "Moroza - krasnogo noza" (more or less the genitive of 'Frost - red nose'). And it is 100% certain that I used a translation, because back then I only knew the Russian alphabet (times haven't changed that much..)

EDIT: is --> was, because Anya has now found the correct name for the poem, which is in fact by a famous poet called Nekrasov. The name of the painting will henceforth be "Moroz - Krasnyj noz" (I use 'y' for the Russian letter ы which doesn't have a counterpart in English)

----

Thanks to Anya for identifying the poem (or rather collection of poems) by Nekrasov. I had apparently seen a genitive form of its name and named my painting after that, but even now it didn't occur to me to search for the nominative form of the name. But now I have another problem, namely that I can't really see the connection between the picture and the poem(s), except for the old lady Darja seen from the back who is dying in the snow as described in the poem - but without her sledge and coffin and the dead peasant. I have a faint memory of something about a 'Father Winter' .. which reminds me of a curious thing about Russia. I first visited the country in December 1974, and all the Father Christmas-figures I saw were blue!

Iversen wrote"Cтихотворениe, которое я использовал, когда я написал картины, являются настоящим определены"
That is the minimal correction
But it would be bette to said:
"писал" instead of "написал"it is because you used the text during painting, not after (in that case you say "когда написал")
"опрделен" it means "determined", but you don't need to determin that text you have used, you need "to find" "найти" original text
And for the last phrase would be better:
