Before that I listened to a whole string om Q!'s i.e. de quiz series with Fry which I have mentioned a couple of times here. I'll just mention one shocking statement made by a lady called Anconi: they had been discussing the take-over of the world by the English language (at the expense of French), and then she claimed that those who spoke English as a second language should BE TAXED (!) ... arguably because they use other people's language for free now.

I have listened to more podcasts from Radio Verde, including no. 177 which has something about intelligent toothpaste (which can predict the weather - or else I need to learn some more Esperanto), something about a young translator and polyglot who was educated by her mother, and who now speaks 8 languages including Esperanto (and listens to poetry by Vergil to relax) AND something about the situation of Esperanto in an Anglophone Internet world.

In my bus-back-home-from-my-job I read a magazin which I bought last year, but then somehow forgot below a pile af other magazines in different languages: "Meridiani - Viaggio del Gusto", an upmarket travel magazine which in this issue describes the region Veneto, whose main cities are Venezia, Padova and Verona. I like the maps, but the hotels and restaurants are probably slightly above my travel budget.

Since the post above I have done some studying:

I have read some more in my Italian highbrow Italian travel and lifestyle magazine Meridiani. And it has struck me how many unknown words, expressions and constructions you can find in the culinaric scribblings of an ecstatic Italian bel-esprit after a few bottles of Amarone. I have to acknowledge a certain risk that I adopt this exquisite way of expressing yourself, and this might not be popular if used on unsuspecting Italian waiters and shop assistants. However given that my gastronomical vocabulary is heavily dominated by the one word "pizza" - which I already know - the risk of contamination isn't big. A pizza is a pizza is still some kind of pizza.

In this moment I see that the History Channel is reinacting the life and deeds of the honorable M. Champollion to us, i.e. the Frenchman who solved the mystery of the hieroglyphs using the trilingual Rosetta Stone. Well, that last name has been somewhat tarnished now, but let's forget the ugly present. Champollion was a remarkable linguist AND polyglot in his days. And Thomas Young wasn't too bad either...

At last it seems that the steady stream of spam messages has been blocked, and I have spent an evening studying without having to check the forum at regular intervals for poop. And that's good because those interruptions inevitably spoil one's concentration.

I have watched Superquark on Raiuno - I actually thought this excellent program had been abandoned (but maybe they just repeat all the old broadcasts?). I have found some mysterious verbal forms on -u in the Yearbook 2011 from the Esperanto organization. I had expected ordinary futures on -us. Is Esperanto finally doing the same thing as natural languages, namely throwing things out which people are too lazy to pronounce? And finally: I have made wordlists in Bahasa with at least 100 words, and afterwards I read about a shopping center in Singapura.

(-us estus eraro cxi-tie)

(-u estus eraro cxi-tie)

Estas klaraj gramatikaj reguloj, kiam oni uzu "-u" kaj kiam oni uzu "-us".

Mi esperas, ke kun tiuj ekzemploj tio estas nun pli klare por vi, cxu ne?
